I hope Billy's sacked his band and puts his trust in the power of the lonely electric guit again. Unless Wilco decide to back him.

You know, I logged on thinking "I wonder if Dave's repped me for the Billy lyrics?". Maybe I should bet on a horse.... A horse named The New Brunette. ;D

:D Sadly, from what I've heard of the album (now, in my possession) it's with a full band. I know what you mean about Wilco, though - the best things he's done since Don't Try This At Home have been with them.

While we're on a Leonard Cohen tip:

The Future

Give me back my broken night
my mirrored room, my secret life
it's lonely here,
there's no one left to torture
Give me absolute control
over every living soul
And lie beside me, baby,
that's an order!
Give me crack and anal sex
Take the only tree that's left
and stuff it up the hole
in your culture
Give me back the Berlin wall
give me Stalin and St Paul
I've seen the future, brother:
it is murder.

Things are going to slide, slide in all directions
Won't be nothing
Nothing you can measure anymore
The blizzard, the blizzard of the world
has crossed the threshold
and it has overturned
the order of the soul
When they said REPENT REPENT
I wonder what they meant
When they said REPENT REPENT
I wonder what they meant
When they said REPENT REPENT
I wonder what they meant

You don't know me from the wind
you never will, you never did
I'm the little jew
who wrote the Bible
I've seen the nations rise and fall
I've heard their stories, heard them all
but love's the only engine of survival
Your servant here, he has been told
to say it clear, to say it cold:
It's over, it ain't going
any further
And now the wheels of heaven stop
you feel the devil's riding crop
Get ready for the future:
it is murder

Things are going to slide ...

There'll be the breaking of the ancient
western code
Your private life will suddenly explode
There'll be phantoms
There'll be fires on the road
and the white man dancing
You'll see a woman
hanging upside down
her features covered by her fallen gown
and all the lousy little poets
coming round
tryin' to sound like Charlie Manson
and the white man dancin'

Give me back the Berlin wall
Give me Stalin and St Paul
Give me Christ
or give me Hiroshima
Destroy another fetus now
We don't like children anyhow
I've seen the future, baby:
it is murder

Things are going to slide ...

When they said REPENT REPENT ...

He should write songs for Westlife!

You know I've heard that tune at least 20 times and I don't think I ever caught this line before:

Give me crack and anal sex

I think I love the guy even more now than before. Of course the lyrics are great but for those who don't know Cohen you just can't get the full effect without hearing that voice of his. (waxing poetic about my youth now) I remember the first time I heard a Cohen song it was Everybody Knows or just a bit of it anyway all throughout what I guess today would probably be called Juno for the 90's a cute little movie called Pump up the Volume (now I'm getting all emotional) and that song was just terrific. It only took me about another ten years or so to finally track the guy down and start collecting some of his stuff. God, what does that make me now? Getting closer to 40 everyday baby! ;)

The first LC song I can conciously remember hearing was First We Take Manhattan.

I loved his voice and I loved his style and I'm Your Man's release in 1988 coincided with the time when I first started to take music seriously (if that doesn't sound too pompous, basically what happened was that I sold my U2 records).

This is from an Aussie band called Red Gum

A poignant song since Australia celebrated ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) Day on 25th April ... commemorating the fallen and returned servicemen and women who faught in all the conflicts Australia has been involved in.

I was Only 19 (a Walk in the Light Green)

Mum and Dad and Denny saw the passing-out parade at Puckapunyal
It was a long march from cadets.
The sixth battalion was the next to tour, and it was me who drew the card.
We did Canungra, Shoalwater before we left.

And Townsville lined the footpaths as we marched down to the quay
This clipping from the paper shows us young and strong and clean.
And there's me in me slouch hat with me SLR and greens.
God help me, I was only nineteen.

From Vung Tau, riding Chinooks, to the dust at Nui Dat
I've been in and out of choppers now for months.
But we made our tents a home, VB and pinups on the lockers
And an Asian orange sunset through the scrub.

And can you tell me, doctor, why I still can't get to sleep?
And night-time's just a jungle dark and a barking M16?
And what's this rash that comes and goes, can you tell me what it means?
God help me, I was only ninteen.

A four week operation when each step could mean your last one on two legs
It was a war within yourself.
But you wouldn't let your mates down 'til they had you dusted off
So you closed your eyes and thought about something else.

And then someone yelled out "Contact!" and the bloke behind me swore
We hooked in there for hours, then a Godalmighty roar
Frankie kicked a mine the day that mankind kicked the moon,
God help me, he was going home in June.

I can still see Frankie, drinking tinnies in the Grand Hotel
On a thirty-six hour rec leave in Vung Tau
And I can still hear Frankie, lying screaming in the jungle
'Til the morphine came and killed the bloody row.

And the Anzac legends didn't mention mud and blood and tears
And the stories that my father told me never seemed quite real.
I caught some pieces in my back that I didn't even feel
God help me, I was only nineteen.

And can you tell me, doctor, why I still can't get to sleep?
And why the Channel Seven chopper chills me to my feet?
And what's this rash that comes and goes, can you tell me what it means?
God help me, I was only nineteen.

My theme song...

Loser ~ Beck

In the time of chimpanzees I was a monkey
Butane in my veins and I’m out to cut the junkie
With the plastic eyeballs, spray-paint the vegetables
Dog food stalls with the beefcake pantyhose
Kill the headlights and put it in neutral
Stock car flamin’ with a loser and the cruise control
Baby’s in reno with the vitamin d
Got a couple of couches, sleep on the love-seat
Someone came in sayin’ I’m insane to complain
About a shotgun wedding and a stain on my shirt
Don’t believe everything that you breathe
You get a parking violation and a maggot on your sleeve
So shave your face with some mace in the dark
Savin’ all your food stamps and burnin’ down the trailer park

Yo. cut it.

Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?

(double barrel buckshot)
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?

Forces of evil on a bozo nightmare
Ban all the music with a phony gas chamber
’cuz one’s got a weasel and the other’s got a flag
One’s on the pole, shove the other in a bag
With the rerun shows and the cocaine nose-job
The daytime crap of the folksinger slob
He hung himself with a guitar string
A slab of turkey-neck and it’s hangin’ from a pigeon wing
You can’t write if you can’t relate
Trade the cash for the beef for the body for the hate
And my time is a piece of wax fallin’ on a termite
who's chokin’ on the splinters

Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
(get crazy with the cheese whiz)
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
(drive-by body-pierce)
(yo bring it on down)
Soooooooyy....

?em llik uoy t'nod yhw os ,ybab resol a m'I rodedrep nu yoS
[You can hear hear it if you reverse it.]

(I’m a driver, I’m a winner; things are gonna change I can feel it)

Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
(I can’t believe you)
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
(Nlehh...)
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
(Sprechen Sie Deutsch hier, Baby!)
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?

"Dixie Drug Store" by Grant Lee Buffalo

(Although the lyrics below which say "Ooh Jambalaya" sound more like "ooh, shine the light", I accept them as printed here)

Ooh Jambalaya
Ooh Jambalaya

It was muggy July around supper time
When I pulled into New Orleans
I got dropped off at South Rampart Street
I was hungry for a plate of greens

I made my way down the banquette
Where I could see an open door
And overhead a sign made of painted pine read
The Dixie Drug Store

Peppers and roots were hanging
From the rafters above
There were oils and sprays all on display
For money luck and for love

I reached down to pick one up
When a dark hand grabbed my arm
And before I could see just who it was
She said you don't want that charm

Ooh Jambalaya

The last man to walk that thing out of here
Just up and disappeared
Found his wallet and his wingtip shoes
Near a tombstone down in Algiers

What you need my travelling friend
Is a place to wash your jeans
And I wouldn't be the least surprised
If you were hungry for a plate of greens

She beckoned me on up the stairs
For she'd done made up her mind
Said take off your hat and kick off your boots
And leave your pride behind

Ooh Jambalaya

She took me down to a secret place
In the bayou of her blankets
She offered to share her bourbon
I thanked her then I drank it

Thru a small crack in the ceiling
Burst the Louisiana moon
It shone down on our bodies
And we began to croon

Like a couple of coyotes
We were howling thru the night
And I swear they were a beatin' those
Congo drums outside

Ooh Jambalaya

We laughed until the mornin'
By then my pants had dried
I picked up my hat and pulled on my boots
And I gathered up my pride

I figured she had done stepped out
I didn't see her anywhere
And I set out to find her
I headed on downstairs

Got down to the bottom
I couldn't believe my eyes
Gone were all the bottles
And the remedy supplies

Ooh Jambalaya

I shouted out for Marie
I darted out the door
An old man on the wooden porch said
What you in there for

Son you got no business
The hoodoo store's been closed
Long as I remember
A century I suppose

But Mister I just spent the night
With a young gal named Laveau
He said the Widow Paris
Done had a little laugh on you

I said you mean to tell me
That was the voodooin'
He nodded yes none other
The Queen of New Orleans

Ooh Jambalaya [Scraps of phrases - Till the end]
Ooh Jambalaya
Ooh Jambalaya
Ooh Jambalaya
Ooh Jambalaya
Ooh Jambalaya

I've always liked the folk song God's Gonna Cut You Down lyrics

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down

Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down

Well my goodness gracious let me tell you the news
My head's been wet with the midnight dew
I've been down on bended knee talkin' to the man from Galilee
He spoke to me in the voice so sweet
I thought I heard the shuffle of the angel's feet
He called my name and my heart stood still
When he said, "John go do My will!"

Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down

Well you may throw your rock and hide your hand
Workin' in the dark against your fellow man
But as sure as God made black and white
What's down in the dark will be brought to the light

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down

Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down

Hurt lyrics by Trent Reznor are really good
(by Trent)
I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of ****
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stain of time
The feeling disappears
You are someone else
I am still right here

What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

(By Johnny Cash)

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hold
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

[Chorus:]
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here

[Chorus:]
What have I become
My ssweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end

"Subterranean Homesick Blues" by Bob Dylan

"Johnny's in the basement
Mixing up the medicine
I'm on the pavement
Thinking about the government
The man in the trench coat
Badge out, laid off
Says he's got a bad cough
Wants to get it paid off
Look out kid
It's somethin' you did
God knows when
But you're doin' it again
You better duck down the alley way
Lookin' for a new friend
The man in the coon-skip cap
In the big pen
Wants eleven dollar bills
You only got ten.

Maggie comes fleet foot
Face full of black soot
Talkin' that the heat put
Plants in the bed but
The phone's tapped anyway
Maggie says that many say
They must bust in early May
Orders from the DA
Look out kid
Don't matter what you did
Walk on your tip toes
Don't try, 'No Doz'
Better stay away from those
That carry around a fire hose
Keep a clean nose
Watch the plain clothes
You don't need a weather man
To know which way the wind blows.

Get sick, get well
Hang around an ink well
Ring bell, hard to tell
If anything is goin' to sell
Try hard, get barred
Get back, write Braille
Get jailed, jump bail Join the army, if you failed
Look out kid
You're gonna get hit
But losers, cheaters
Six-time users
Hang around the theaters
Girl by the whirlpool
Lookin' for a new fool
Don't follow leaders
Watch the parkin' meters.

Ah get born, keep warm
Short pants, romance, learn to dance
Get dressed, get blessed
Try to be a success
Please her, please him, buy gifts
Don't steal, don't lift
Twenty years of schoolin'
And they put you on the day shift
Look out kid
They keep it all hid
Better jump down a manhole
Light yourself a candle
Don't wear sandals
Try to avoid the scandals
Don't wanna be a bum
You better chew gum
The pump don't work
'Cause the vandals took the handles."

No on can do it like Dylan

Frou Frou - Hear me out

http://www.youtube.com/v/RUwri5brAEY&hl=en

I join the queue on your answer phone
And all I am is holding breath
Just pick up I know you're there
Can't you hear?
I'm not myself
Well, go ahead and lie to me
You could say anything
Small talk will be just fine
Your voice is everything
We owe it to love
And it all depends on you
So listen up
The sun hasn't set
(I refuse to believe that it's only me feeling)
Just hear me out
I'm not over you yet
(It’s love on the line, can you handle it?)
So how do I do normal?
A smile I fake
the per-ma-nent-way
cue-cards and fix-it kits
Can't you tell?
I'm not myself
I'm a slow motion accident
Lost in coffee rings and fingerprints
I don't wanna feel anything but I do
And it all comes back to you
So listen up
This sun hasn't set
(I refuse to believe that it's only me feeling)
Just hear me out
I'm not over you yet
(It’s love on the line, can you handle it?)
Hear me out
Listen up
This time you gotta listen to me - yeah
Look at me straight
Just hear me out
Don't make me wait
I'm not myself
I can't take this
Love's on the line
Is that your final answer?
I join the queue on your answer phone
And all I am is holding breath
Just pick up, I know you're there...
So listen up
This sun hasn't set
(I refuse to believe that it's only me feeling)
Just hear me out
I'm not over you yet
(It’s love on the line, can you handle it?)

I Remember Me

He almost walked into a wall
Oh, man, she was a sight to see
And at the party down the hall
He said, "you are the highest apple in the tree"

Out the window, in the harbor he saw a little ship
The moon was worn just slightly on the right
And they slow danced so the needle wouldn't skip
Until the room was filled with light

And I remember you
And I remember me
The sunshine walking inside you
And the man you could see in me

So I remember me
And I remember you
So many beautiful days in a row now
And the nights were perfect, too

Hand in hand down a waterslide in Chattanooga
They did not hide from love, you see
A winter's plane flight to Aruba
Where he threw a boombox into the sea

One day they were cutting flowers for something to do
On the bank of the road 'neath the cotton woods
And he turned to her to ask if she'd marry him
When a runaway truck hit him where he stood

So I remember you
And I remember you
And I remember you

And I remember me
And I remember me
A blackhawk nailed to the sky
And the tape is from the trees

Everybody said she needed to move on
That he was all but lost, so deep was his coma
When he finally came to the girl he loved was long gone
She'd married a banker and gone to Oklahoma

He bought a little land with the money from the settlement
And even bought the truck that had hit him that day
He touched the part where the metal was bent
And if you were there you wouldn't hear him say

I remember her
And I remember him
I remember them
I remember then
I'm just remembering
I'm just remembering
Just remembering
I'm just remembering

"Atmosphere" - Joy Division

Walk in silence,
Don't walk away, in silence.
See the danger,
Always danger,
Endless talking,
Life rebuilding,
Don't walk away.

Walk in silence,
Don't turn away, in silence.
Your confusion,
My illusion,
Worn like a mask of self-hate,
Confronts and then dies.
Don't walk away.

People like you find it easy,
Naked to see,
Walking on air.
Hunting by the rivers,
Through the streets,
Every corner abandoned too soon,
Set down with due care.
Don't walk away in silence,
Don't walk away.

"Say Valley Maker" - Smog

With the grace of a corpse
In a riptide
I let go
And I slide slide slide
Downriver
With an empty case by my side
An empty case
That's my crime

And I sing (Say Valley Maker)
To keep from cursing
Yes I sing (Say Valley Maker)
To keep from cursing

River Oh
River End
River Oh
River End
River Go
River Bend

Take me through the sweet valley
Where your heart blooms
Take me through the sweet valley
Where your heart is covered in dew

And when the river dries
Will you bury me in wood
Where the river dries
Will you bury me in stone

Oh I never really realized
Death is what it meant
To make it on my own

Because there is no love
Where there is no obstacle
And there is no love
Where there is no bramble
There is no love
On the hacked away plateau
And there is no love
In the unerring
And there is no love
On the one true path

Oh I cantered out here
Now I'm galloping back

So bury me in wood
And I will splinter
Bury me in stone
And I will quake
Bury me in water
And I will geyser
Bury me in fire
And I'm gonna phoenix

I'm gonna phoenix

Pink Floyd-"Wish You Were Here"

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

I'm sure everyone knows this song, but it has unending meaning to me and is still one of my favorites, it conjures up many memories as I'm sure it does for a lot of people. This was played at my best friend/boyfriend's funeral in 1994. Talk about spanning generations....

"Don’t Look Back In Anger" - Oasis

Slip inside the eye of your mind
Dont you know you might find
A better place to play

You said that youve never been (sounds like bean in order to rhyme w/seen)
But all the things that youve seen
They slowly fade away

So Ill start a revolution from my bed
cuz you said the brains I had went to my head
Step outside, summertimes in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off your face
You aint ever gonna burn my heart out

And so, sally can wait
She knows its too late as were walking on by
Her soul slides away
But dont look back in anger
I heard you say

Take me to the place where you go
Where nobody knows
If its not our day

Please dont put your life in the hands
Of a rock and roll band
[and? youll? ] throw it all away

Im gonna start a revolution from my bed
cuz you said the brains I had went to my head
Step outside, cuz summertimes in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off your face
cuz you aint ever gonna burn my heart out

And so, sally can wait
She knows its too late as shes walking on by
My soul slides away
But dont look back in anger
I heard you say

So, sally can wait
She knows its too late as were walking on by
Her soul slides away
But dont look back in anger
I heard you say

So, sally can wait
She knows its too late as shes walking on by
My soul slides away
But dont look back in anger
Dont look back in anger
I heard you say

At least not today.

Comfortably Numb

Hello
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone home?

Come on, now
I hear youre feeling down
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again

Relax
I need some information first
Just the basic facts:
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain, you are receding
A distant ships smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I cant hear what youre sayin
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons
Now I got that feeling once again
I cant explain, you would not understand
This is not how I am
I have become comfortably numb

Ok
Just a little pinprick
There'll be no more
But you may feel a little sick.

Can you stand up?
I do believe its working. good
Thatll keep you going for the show
Come on its time to go

There is no pain, you are receding
A distant ships smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I cant hear what youre sayin
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown, the dream is gone
I have become comfortably numb

For to buy no more whiskey
I have to go home

I am the captain of my pain
Tis the bit, the bridle,
The trashing cane
The stirrup, the harness
The whipping mane
The pickled eye
The shrinking brain
O brother, buy me one more drink
I'll explain the nature of my pain
Yes, let me tell you once again
I am the captain of my pain

O brother, my cup is empty
And I haven't got a penny
For to buy no more whiskey
I have to go home

I cannot blame it all on her
To blame her all would be a lie
For many a night I lay awake
And wished that I could watch her die
To see her accusing finger spurt
To see flies swarm her hateful eye
To watch her groaning in the dirt
To see her clicking tongue crack dry
O brother, buy me one more drink
One more drink and then goodbye
And do not mock me when I say
Let's drink one more before I die

O brother, my cup is empty
And I haven't got a penny
For to buy no more whiskey
I have to go home

Well I've been sliding down on rainbows
Well I've been swinging from the stars
Now this wretch in beggars clothing
Bangs his cup across the bars
Look, this cup of mine is empty!
Seems I've misplaced my desires
Seems I'm sweeping up the ashes
Of all my former fires
So brother, be a brother
And fill this tiny cup of mine
And please, sir, make it whiskey
For I have no head for wine

O brother, my cup is empty
And I haven't got a penny
For to buy no more whiskey
I have to go home

I counted up my blessings
And counted only one
One tiny little blessing
And now that blessings gone
So buy me one more drink, my brother
Then I'm taking to the road
Yes, I'm taking to the rain
I'm taking to the snow
O my friend, my only brother
Do not let the party grieve
So throw a dollar onto the bar
Now kiss my ass and leave

O brother, my cup is empty
And I haven't got a penny
For to buy no more whiskey
I have to go home

Nothing But Sunshine: Atmosphere

Whatta you mean what was my childhood like?
What difference does that make?
Yo, my childhood was messed up, so what?
Everybody's childhood was messed up.
This is the 90's, find me one person who had it right.
What's that got to do with me rhyming?
What's left?

Now when my mother died I had to take it in stride
There ain't no room for pride in watching your father cry
And dad made it until maybe a year later
When they found his suicide inside of a grain elevator
Got over it, I had no other office or options
Thought about whether or not mom and pop was watching
Never bothered with caution, no time for fear
Saw my folks carry fear for most my early years
And I learned from it, turned numb and ignored the storm
A burning sun waiting for the world to plummet
Finished growing up under my uncle's roof
He taught me how to count all the way up to 100 proof
From watching him I learned how to gather nourishment
Living off the different women that he had to nurture him
And on the surface I became a normal pre-teen
More afraid of nuclear war than snake bites and bee stings
My best friend was my TV
Game shows and cartoons substituted for
puppies, rainbows, and balloons
Now here I am, the shy type, and I think I'm doing alright
Considering what it was like living my life

Chorus

It's nothing but sunshine
It's all sunshine
It's nothing but sunshine

Now it's been 17 summers since I've seen my mother
But every night I see her smile inside my dreams
When I was younger I didn't actually see the accident happen
But every night I see her smile as it
shatters against the screams
I can only imagine Dad's internal reaction
Strain, inferno burning, bound in his brain
What's it take to make a man who owns acres of land
Abandon the family plan and drown himself in his grains
I'm glad I left that farm in Northern Minnesota
Where the time moves slower and the winters are colder
Became a city boy, where everybody acts like they older
Where they stick to themselves and
keep a chip on they shoulder
26 years of age, no longer full of rage
I think it's safe to say I've turned a
page on my childhood days
"Ay yo look Ma, I'm a productive member of society
When I'm drunk I make noise, but otherwise I like quietly"
And on the weekend I go back up north to reminisce
Remember what it was like pretending to be a kid
Late at night I walked the fields and lurk in the shadows
Getting even with life by murdering cattle

Chorus

It's all sunshine
It's nothing but sunshine
It's all sunshine

(And I'm gonna be alright, and you gonna be alright,
You ain't gotta hold my hand, just walk with me tonight)

Carry on my wayward son
They'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more

Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher
But I flew too high

Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming
I can hear them say

Carry on my wayward son
They'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more

Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, well
It surely means that I don't know

On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune
But I hear the voices say

Carry on my wayward son
They'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more

No!

Carry on, you will always remember
Carry on, nothing equals the splendor
Now your life's no longer empty
Surely heaven waits for you

Carry on my wayward son
They'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest,
Don't you cry, Don't you cry no more

"Song to the Siren" - Tim Buckley

Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving into your isle
And you sang
"Sail to me, sail to me, let me enfold you"
Here I am, here I am, waiting to hold you

Did I dream you dreamed about me
Were you here when I was flotsam
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks
For you sang
"Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow"
Oh my heart, oh my heart shies from the sorrow

Well I'm as puzzled as a newborn child
I'm as riddled as the tide
Should I stand amid the breakers
Or should I lie with death my bride
Hear me sing
"Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you"
"Here I am. Here I am, waiting to hold you"

You're Wrong - NOFX

You're wrong about virtues of Christianity
And you're wrong if you agree with Sean Hannity
If you think that pride is about nationality, you're wrong

You're wrong when you imprison people turning tricks
And you're wrong about trickle down economics
If you think that punk rock doesn't mix with politics, you're wrong

You're wrong for hating queers and eating steers
If you kill for the thrill of the hunt
You're wrong 'bout wearing fur and not hating Ann Coulter
Cause she's a ****ed ****

You're wrong if you celebrate Columbus Day
And You're wrong if you think there will be a Judgement Day
If you're a charter member of the NRA, you're wrong

You're wrong if you support capital punishment
And you're wrong if you don't question your government
If you think her reproductive rights are inconsequent, you're wrong

You're wrong fighting Jihad, your blind faith in God
Your religions are all flawed,
You're wrong about drug use, when its not abuse
I hope you never reproduce

You're getting high on the downlow
A victim of Cointelpro
You're wrong and will probably never know

Kashmir - Lampshade

you'd be surprised if you looked through the eyes of a nova
not recognizing the molehills on top of the star
cheerful and swollen he waves from his seat in a rover
that is his car

you wouldn't doubt him shake the most powerful hands of importance
changing the world as we know it by leaving his ink
to judge from the fence 'round his house he must love all his children
that's what you think

but there's no time to think
have a pill and a shrink
just don't show us how you sweat
making love to your kids
is the last love that you will ever get

you're a vanishing image of what I thought I knew
but it comes to show
that the man I know -

is kissing that cheek that she had lifted up for her forty first birthday
love is when someone you trust cuts a smile in your face
boy had a dog and poor girl had a stroke like an earthquake
now dog is a bird

but there's no time to think
have a pill and a shrink
just don't show us how you sweat
making love to your kids
is the last love that you will ever get

you're a vanishing image of what i thought I knew
but it comes to show
that the man I know
has a fading glow
in a white lampshade

tell me lamshade the truth did you cover his soul
did you protect all the horrible
I shall tear you apart so that everyone knows
what he's been carrying around

tell me lampshade what is it you're trying to hide
under your stinky old corduroy
I shall rip and be shattered by the shrapnell of light
that I've been choking on always

there's a dog barking close within the range of my ear
sounds like he wants to escape the chain
he would probably bite me to death if he could
but the chain lets me spit in his face

like the dog has a chain clinging tight to it's neck
this man is tied to his secrecy
I would like to have killed him off in this last verse
but instead I removed his lampshade

You're Wrong - NOFX
Seriously? Those are horrendous. Even if you agree with every single line (and good luck defenidng even half of them), they're terribly written. Bad poetry, and worse politics.

This is par for the course with angry musicians. The angrier they are about some political issue, the worse the song about it usually is. Their blind hatred overwhelms whatever talent they might have.

I think the band is whack (anarchist punk is just silly...which is why I like Bad Religion so much because it's not anarchist), but it's (NOFX) fun as hell to listen to when I'm pissed. But come on, Ann Coulter *is* a ****. You gotta give em that one... ;)

That NOFX song is stupid, Ann Coulter is insane, Bad Religion blows and Punk in Drublic is one of the greatest punk albums of all time.

And I don't agree at all with that "the angrier they are, the crappier the music is" theory. You don't have to shout to be angry. What about "Imagine"?

Well, I did I use the word "usually." Lennon himself might have been angry about a lot of things, but I wouldn't say "Imagine" itself is. And while it's not crappy, and the melody is lovely, I do think some of the lyrics are pretty hackneyed.

Shattered Faith - Bad Religion

The scientist purported that there ain't no purpose
And the theologian told me that it's all been designed
And I'm trying to maintain objectivity.
The world won't illuminate what really matters,
And I'm an imperfect mortal meaning extractor
Processing the complexity.

Born of the earth, (Are we blind?)
We weren't given a choice. (There's no way)
What about free will? (What we have)
Do we have a voice? (Is shattered faith)
See them run in place (Here and now)
In the human rat race, (No reward)
So much dead weight (No debate)
To our disgrace. (Shattered faith)
Life begins when you accept your fate.

Paralysis from forces raging out of control until
My confidence and will are at an all-time low,
Just directionless wandering.
Eternal life, eternal truth, eternal secrets,
Isolated hopes and hypotheses just
Leave me feeling so hungry.

Born of the earth, (Are we blind?)
We weren't given a choice. (There's no way)
What about free will? (What we have)
Do we have a voice? (Is shattered faith)
See them run in place (Here and now)
In the human rat race, (No reward)
So much dead weight (No debate)
To our disgrace. (Shattered faith)
Life begins when you accept your fate.

Right or wrong, the main criterion is what you do and not what you say,
The roads you take, the friends you make and those you throw away.
The method is a simple synthesis of the past and present state,
You never lose if the path you choose is one you can easily navigate.

I had a dream, light and carefree, but now there's doubt and gravity.
But I won't run in place (Are we blind?)
In the human rat race. (There's no way)
I can set the pace (What we have)
And accept my fate. (Is shattered faith)
Shattered faith, (Here and now)
Shattered faith, (No reward)
The part of me (No debate)
I can't erase. (Shattered faith)

The more interviews and whatnot I read of Lennon's, the more I flat-out hate that guy. But his songwriting ability was unparalleled. Never underestimate a piece that dude wrote, even if it is a seminal classic that you've heard a million times like "Imagine". Assuming you disagree with the sentiment (I sure do), you've still gotta realize the lyrics to "Imagine" are simplistic by design. It's meant to take you off guard with its "lovely melody" and you can feel the wound-up frustration dripping off of every word if you're really listening. I mean, man, how is "Imagine" not like the angriest song you've ever heard?

Bad Religion is iconic. NOFX is a bunch of pissed off teenagers that still haven't grown up, while BR has matured. I mean, the fact that NOFX still writes songs like the one I posted above is a *prime* example of the pissed off teenager. BR may still be pissed off, but at least they can express themselves with poetic literacy instead of resorting to a flat attack on everything.

Nope, I would take BR over NOFX every day of the week.

It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) - Bob Dylan

Darkness at the break of noon
Shadows even the silver spoon
The handmade blade, the child's balloon
Eclipses both the sun and moon
To understand you know too soon
There is no sense in trying.

Pointed threats, they bluff with scorn
Suicide remarks are torn
From the fool's gold mouthpiece
The hollow horn plays wasted words
Proves to warn
That he not busy being born
Is busy dying.

Temptation's page flies out the door
You follow, find yourself at war
Watch waterfalls of pity roar
You feel to moan but unlike before
You discover
That you'd just be
One more person crying.

So don't fear if you hear
A foreign sound to your ear
It's alright, Ma, I'm only sighing.

As some warn victory, some downfall
Private reasons great or small
Can be seen in the eyes of those that call
To make all that should be killed to crawl
While others say don't hate nothing at all
Except hatred.

Disillusioned words like bullets bark
As human gods aim for their mark
Made everything from toy guns that spark
To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark
It's easy to see without looking too far
That not much
Is really sacred.

While preachers preach of evil fates
Teachers teach that knowledge waits
Can lead to hundred-dollar plates
Goodness hides behind its gates
But even the president of the United States
Sometimes must have
To stand naked.

An' though the rules of the road have been lodged
It's only people's games that you got to dodge
And it's alright, Ma, I can make it.

Advertising signs that con you
Into thinking you're the one
That can do what's never been done
That can win what's never been won
Meantime life outside goes on
All around you.

You lose yourself, you reappear
You suddenly find you got nothing to fear
Alone you stand with nobody near
When a trembling distant voice, unclear
Startles your sleeping ears to hear
That somebody thinks
They really found you.

A question in your nerves is lit
Yet you know there is no answer fit to satisfy
Insure you not to quit
To keep it in your mind and not fergit
That it is not he or she or them or it
That you belong to.

Although the masters make the rules
For the wise men and the fools
I got nothing, Ma, to live up to.

For them that must obey authority
That they do not respect in any degree
Who despise their jobs, their destinies
Speak jealously of them that are free
Cultivate their flowers to be
Nothing more than something
They invest in.

While some on principles baptized
To strict party platform ties
Social clubs in drag disguise
Outsiders they can freely criticize
Tell nothing except who to idolize
And then say God bless him.

While one who sings with his tongue on fire
Gargles in the rat race choir
Bent out of shape from society's pliers
Cares not to come up any higher
But rather get you down in the hole
That he's in.

But I mean no harm nor put fault
On anyone that lives in a vault
But it's alright, Ma, if I can't please him.

Old lady judges watch people in pairs
Limited in sex, they dare
To push fake morals, insult and stare
While money doesn't talk, it swears
Obscenity, who really cares
Propaganda, all is phony.

While them that defend what they cannot see
With a killer's pride, security
It blows the minds most bitterly
For them that think death's honesty
Won't fall upon them naturally
Life sometimes
Must get lonely.

My eyes collide head-on with stuffed graveyards
False gods, I scuff
At pettiness which plays so rough
Walk upside-down inside handcuffs
Kick my legs to crash it off
Say okay, I have had enough
What else can you show me?

And if my thought-dreams could be seen
They'd probably put my head in a guillotine
But it's alright, Ma, it's life, and life only.

Thanks for the clip Mark. That song, along with Jimi's "If Six Was Nine", are perfect for the film and its theme's. Most people relate to "Born to Be Wild" in regards to Easy Rider, but for me it's those songs. The first time I saw the film years ago I wasn't a Dylan fan, but after revisiting it a few years back I noticed the song, and knowing the lyrics it had a much bigger impact on me, especially considering the ending, which is awesome.

The Smashing Pumpkins - The End is the Beginning is the End

The sewers belch me up
The heavens spit me out
From ethers tragic I am born again
And now I'm with you now
Inside your world of wow
To move in desires made of deadly pretends
Till the end times begin

Is it bright where you are
Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour, I hold secrets flame
You can watch the world devoured in it's pain
Strange

Climb my ribcage to
The replays run for you
Unhook my lights to peek behind the flash
For I am crystal chrome
I am shatter dome
I am kremlin king of angels avenged
To destroy the end

Is it bright where you are
Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour, I hold secrets flame
You can watch the world devoured in it's pain

The zeppelins rain upon us
The guns of love disastrous
A shadow lies amongst you
To defy the future cast

Is it bright where you are
Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour, I hold secrets flame
You can watch the world devoured in it's pain

Speaking of The Smashing Pumpkins, I always thought "1979" had great lyrics:

Shakedown 1979, cool kids never have the time
On a live wire right up off the street
You and I should meet
Junebug skipping like a stone
With the headlights pointed at the dawn
We were sure wed never see an end to it all

And I don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know
Just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess
Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below

Double cross the vacant and the bored
They're not sure just what we have in the store
Morphine city slippin dues down to see

That we don't even care as restless as we are
We feel the pull in the land of a thousand guilts
And poured cement, lamented and assured
To the lights and towns below
Faster than the speed of sound
Faster than we thought wed go, beneath the sound of hope

Justine never knew the rules,
Hung down with the freaks and the ghouls
No apologies ever need be made, I know you better than you fake it

To see that we don't care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess
Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below
The street heats the urgency of sound
As you can see there's no one around

Performed like this:

Mama, she has taught me well
Told me when I's young
Son, your life's an open book
Don't close it 'fore it's done
The brightest flame burns quickest
That's what I heard her say
A son's heart's owed to mother
But I must find my way

Let my heart go
Let your son grow
Mama, let my heart go
Or let this heart be still

"Rebel", my new last name
Wild blood in my veins
Apron strings around my neck
The mark that still remains
left home at an early age
Of what I heard was wrong
I never asked forgiveness
But what is said is done

Let my heart go
Let your son grow
Mama, let my heart go
Or let this heart be still

Never I ask of you
What never I gave
But you gave me your emptiness
I now take to my grave
Never I ask of you
But never I gave
But you gave me your emptiness
I now take to my grave
So let this heart be still

Mama, now I'm coming home
I'm not all you wished of me
But a mother's love for her son
Unspoken, help me be
Oh Yeah I took your love for granted
And all the things you said to me
I need your arms to welcome me
But a cold stone's all I see

Let my heart go
Let your son grow
Mama, let my heart go
Or let this heart be still

Let my heart go
Mama, let my heart go
You never let my heart go
So let this heart be still

Never I ask of you
What never I gave
But you gave me your emptiness
I now take to my grave
Never I ask of you
But never I gave
But you gave me your emptiness
I now take to my grave
So let this heart be still

Cat Power - "Still in Love"

Today I passed you on the street
And my heart fell at your feet
I can't help it if I'm still in love with you

Someone else stood by your side
She looked so satisfied
I can't help it
I'm still in love with you

A picture from the past came slowly stealin'
As I brushed your arm and
walked so close to you
Then suddenly I got that old-time feelin'
I can't help it
I am still in love with you

It hurts to know another's lips will kiss you
And hold you just the way I used to do
Oh heaven only knows how much I miss you
I can't help it
I'm still in love with you

Bob Dylan - "Mississippi"

Every step of the way we walk the line
Your days are numbered, so are mine
Time is pilin' up, we struggle and we scrape
We're all boxed in, nowhere to escape

City's just a jungle, more games to play
Trapped in the heart of it, trying to get away
I was raised in the country, I been workin' in the town
I been in trouble ever since I set my suitcase down

Got nothing for you, I had nothing before
Don't even have anything for myself anymore
Sky full of fire, pain pourin' down
Nothing you can sell me, I'll see you around

All my powers of expression and thoughts so sublime
Could never do you justice in reason or rhyme
Only one thing I did wrong
Stayed in Mississippi a day too long

Well, the devil's in the alley, mule's in the stall
Say anything you wanna, I have heard it all
I was thinkin' about the things that Rosie said
I was dreaming I was sleeping in Rosie's bed

Walking through the leaves, falling from the trees
Feeling like a stranger nobody sees
So many things that we never will undo
I know you're sorry, I'm sorry too

Some people will offer you their hand and some won't
Last night I knew you, tonight I don't
I need somethin' strong to distract my mind
I'm gonna look at you 'til my eyes go blind

Well I got here following the southern star
I crossed that river just to be where you are
Only one thing I did wrong
Stayed in Mississippi a day too long

Well my ship's been split to splinters and it's sinking fast
I'm drownin' in the poison, got no future, got no past
But my heart is not weary, it's light and it's free
I've got nothin' but affection for all those who've sailed with me

Everybody movin' if they ain't already there
Everybody got to move somewhere
Stick with me baby, stick with me anyhow
Things should start to get interesting right about now

My clothes are wet, tight on my skin
Not as tight as the corner that I painted myself in
I know that fortune is waitin' to be kind
So give me your hand and say you'll be mine

Well, the emptiness is endless, cold as the clay
You can always come back, but you can't come back all the way
Only one thing I did wrong
Stayed in Mississippi a day too long

Subterranean Homesick Blues
Bob Dylan

Johnny's in the basement
Mixing up the medicine
I'm on the pavement
Thinking about the government
The man in the trench coat
Badge out, laid off
Says hes got a bad cough
Wants to get it paid off
Look out kid
Its somethin you did
God knows when
But youre doin it again
You better duck down the alley way
Lookin for a new friend
The man in the coon-skin cap
In the big pen
Wants eleven dollar bills
You only got ten

Maggie comes fleet foot
Face full of black soot
Talkin that the heat put
Plants in the bed but
The phones tapped anyway
Maggie says that many say
They must bust in early may
Orders from the d. a.
Look out kid
Dont matter what you did
Walk on your tip toes
Dont try no doz
Better stay away from those
That carry around a fire hose
Keep a clean nose
Watch the plain clothes
(http://www.lyricsfreak.com/b/bob+dylan/subterranean+homesick+blues_20021303.html#) You dont need a weather man
To know which way the wind blows

Get sick, get well
Hang around a ink well
ring bell, hard to tell
If anything is goin to sell
Try hard, get barred
Get back, write braille
Get jailed, jump bail
Join the army, if you fail
Look out kid
Youre gonna get hit
But losers, cheaters
Six-time users
Hang around the theaters
Girl by the whirlpool
Lookin for a new fool
Dont follow leaders
Watch the parkin meters

Ah get born, keep warm
Short pants, romance, learn to dance
Get dressed, get blessed
Try to be a success
Please her, please him, buy gifts
Dont steal, dont lift
Twenty years of schoolin
And they put you on the day shift
Look out kid
They keep it all hid
Better jump down a manhole
Light yourself a candle
Dont wear sandals
Try to avoid the scandals
Dont wanna be a bum
You better chew gum
The pump dont work
cause the vandals took the handles

I was recently listening to this and struck by some of the lyrics. And I hope no one's put it up yet, but now that I've said that someone probably has.

"Sympathy" by Sleater-Kinney

I know I come to you only when in need
I'm not the best believer
not the most deserving
but all I have all I am all I can
For him
I'd beg you on bended knees for him:
Precious baby, is your life hanging by a thread?
A thread I'm standing on, praying on today
All I have all I am all I can
For him
I'd beg you on bended knees for him
I've got this curse in my hands
All I touch fades to black
Turns to dust turns to sand
I've got this curse on my tongue
All I taste is the rust
This decay in my blood
I don't like the doctor with the deep long face
Only wants to give us the very worst case
I'd rather shout out and shake him and do anything
For him
I'd beg you on bended knees for him
When the moment strikes
it takes you by surprise and
leaves you naked in the face of death and life
there is no righteousness in your darkest moment
We're all equal in the face of what we're most afraid of
And I'm so sorry
for those who didn't make it
and for the mommies who are left with their heart breaking
I search for meaning in sores
The sentences they might form
It's the grammar of skin
Peel it back, let me in
Look for hope in the dark
The shadow cast by your heart
It's the grammar of faith
No more rules, no restraint
How angry I would be
If you'd taken him away
I wish I was wiser but instead
I'll be grateful I'll say thanks
For the joy for the love for the smile on his face
I'd beg you on bended knees for him

Weird Al-Pretty Fly For A Rabbi

(How ya doin' Bernie?) Oy vey, oy vey
(How ya doin' Bernie?) Oy vey, oy vey
(How ya doin' Bernie?) Oy vey, oy vey
And all the goyim say I'm pretty fly for a rabbi

Meccha leccha hi, meccha hiney hiney ho

Our temple's had a fair share of rabbis in the past
But most of 'em were nudniks and none of 'em would last
But our new guy's real kosher, I think he'll do the trick
I tell ya, he's to die for - he really knows his shtick

So how's by you? Have you seen this Jew?
Reads the Torah, does his own accounting too
Workin' like a dog at the synagogue
He's there all day, he's there all day
Just say "Vay iz mir!" and he'll kick into gear
He'll bring you lots of cheer and maybe bagels with some shmeer
Just grab your yarmulke and
Hey! Hey! Do that Hebrew thing!

(How ya doin' Bernie?) Oy vey, oy vey
(How ya doin' Bernie?) Oy vey, oy vey
(How ya doin' Bernie?) Oy vey, oy vey
And all the goyim say I'm pretty fly (for a rabbi)

He shops at discount stores, not just any will suffice
He has to find a bargain 'cause he won't pay retail price
He never acts meshuga and he's hardly a schlemiel
But if you wanna haggle, oy, he'll make you such a deal!

People used to scoff, now they say "Mazal Tov!"
He's such a macher 'cause he worked his tuchus off
Yeah, he keeps his cool and teaches shul
What's not to like? What's not to like?
On high holy days, you know he prays and prays
And he never eats pastrami on white BREAD with mayonnaise
Put on your yarmulke and
Hey! Hey! Do that Hebrew thing!

When he's doing a Bar Mitzvah, now that you shouldn't miss
He'll always schlep on down for a wedding or a bris
They say he's got a lot of chutzpah, he's really quite hip
The parents pay the moyl and he gets to keep the tip

(How ya doin' Bernie?) Oy vey, oy vey
(How ya doin' Bernie?) Oy vey, oy vey
(How ya doin' Bernie?) Oy vey, oy vey

Meccha leccha hi, meccha meccha cholly ho

He's doin' well, I gotta kvell
The yentas love him, even shicksas think he's swell
Show up at his home, he says "Shalom"
And "Have some cake - you want some cake?"
Yah, he calls the shots, we really love him lots
Oy gevalt, I'm so ferklempt that I could plotz
So grab your yarmulke
The one you got for Chanukah
Let's put on our yarmulke and
Hey! Hey! Do that Hebrew thing!

Tangled Up In Blue - Bob Dylan

Early one mornin' the sun was shinin',
I was layin' in bed
Wond'rin' if she'd changed at all
If her hair was still red.
Her folks they said our lives together
Sure was gonna be rough
They never did like Mama's homemade dress
Papa's bankbook wasn't big enough.
And I was standin' on the side of the road
Rain fallin' on my shoes
Heading out for the East Coast
Lord knows I've paid some dues gettin' through,
Tangled up in blue.

She was married when we first met
Soon to be divorced
I helped her out of a jam, I guess,
But I used a little too much force.
We drove that car as far as we could
Abandoned it out West
Split up on a dark sad night
Both agreeing it was best.
She turned around to look at me
As I was walkin' away
I heard her say over my shoulder,
"We'll meet again someday on the avenue,"
Tangled up in blue.

I had a job in the great north woods
Working as a cook for a spell
But I never did like it all that much
And one day the ax just fell.
So I drifted down to New Orleans
Where I happened to be employed
Workin' for a while on a fishin' boat
Right outside of Delacroix.
But all the while I was alone
The past was close behind,
I seen a lot of women
But she never escaped my mind, and I just grew
Tangled up in blue.

She was workin' in a topless place
And I stopped in for a beer,
I just kept lookin' at the side of her face
In the spotlight so clear.
And later on as the crowd thinned out
I's just about to do the same,
She was standing there in back of my chair
Said to me, "Don't I know your name?"
I muttered somethin' underneath my breath,
She studied the lines on my face.
I must admit I felt a little uneasy
When she bent down to tie the laces of my shoe,
Tangled up in blue.

She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe
"I thought you'd never say hello," she said
"You look like the silent type."
Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the thirteenth century.
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin' coal
Pourin' off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you,
Tangled up in blue.

I lived with them on Montague Street
In a basement down the stairs,
There was music in the cafes at night
And revolution in the air.
Then he started into dealing with slaves
And something inside of him died.
She had to sell everything she owned
And froze up inside.
And when finally the bottom fell out
I became withdrawn,
The only thing I knew how to do
Was to keep on keepin' on like a bird that flew,
Tangled up in blue.

So now I'm goin' back again,
I got to get to her somehow.
All the people we used to know
They're an illusion to me now.
Some are mathematicians
Some are carpenter's wives.
Don't know how it all got started,
I don't know what they're doin' with their lives.
But me, I'm still on the road
Headin' for another joint
We always did feel the same,
We just saw it from a different point of view,
Tangled up in blue.

Idiot Wind - Bob Dylan

Someone's got it in for me, they're planting stories in the press
Whoever it is I wish they'd cut it out but when they will I can only guess.
They say I shot a man named Gray and took his wife to Italy,
She inherited a million bucks and when she died it came to me.
I can't help it if I'm lucky.

People see me all the time and they just can't remember how to act
Their minds are filled with big ideas, images and distorted facts.
Even you, yesterday you had to ask me where it was at,
I couldn't believe after all these years, you didn't know me better than that
Sweet lady.

Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your mouth,
Blowing down the backroads headin' south.
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,
You're an idiot, babe.
It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe.

I ran into the fortune-teller, who said beware of lightning that might strike
I haven't known peace and quiet for so long I can't remember what it's like.
There's a lone soldier on the cross, smoke pourin' out of a boxcar door,
You didn't know it, you didn't think it could be done, in the final end he won the wars
After losin' every battle.

I woke up on the roadside, daydreamin' 'bout the way things sometimes are
Visions of your chestnut mare shoot through my head and are makin' me see stars.
You hurt the ones that I love best and cover up the truth with lies.
One day you'll be in the ditch, flies buzzin' around your eyes,
Blood on your saddle.

Idiot wind, blowing through the flowers on your tomb,
Blowing through the curtains in your room.
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,
You're an idiot, babe.

It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe.
It was gravity which pulled us down and destiny which broke us apart
You tamed the lion in my cage but it just wasn't enough to change my heart.
Now everything's a little upside down, as a matter of fact the wheels have stopped,
What's good is bad, what's bad is good, you'll find out when you reach the top
You're on the bottom.

I noticed at the ceremony, your corrupt ways had finally made you blind
I can't remember your face anymore, your mouth has changed, your eyes
don't look into mine.
The priest wore black on the seventh day and sat stone-faced while the building
burned.
I waited for you on the running boards, near the cypress trees, while the springtime
turned Slowly into autumn.

Idiot wind, blowing like a circle around my skull,
From the Grand Coulee Dam to the Capitol.
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,
You're an idiot, babe.
It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe.

I can't feel you anymore, I can't even touch the books you've read
Every time I crawl past your door, I been wishin' I was somebody else instead.
Down the highway, down the tracks, down the road to ecstasy,
I followed you beneath the stars, hounded by your memory
And all your ragin' glory.

I been double-crossed now for the very last time and now I'm finally free,
I kissed goodbye the howling beast on the borderline which separated you from me.
You'll never know the hurt I suffered nor the pain I rise above,
And I'll never know the same about you, your holiness or your kind of love,
And it makes me feel so sorry.

Idiot wind, blowing through the buttons of our coats,
Blowing through the letters that we wrote.
Idiot wind, blowing through the dust upon our shelves,
We're idiots, babe.
It's a wonder we can even feed ourselves.

Dream Theater - The Great Debate

What if someone said
Promise lies ahead
Hopes are high in certain scientific circles
Life won't have to end
You could walk again

What if someone said
Problems lie ahead
They've uncovered something highly controversial
The right to life is strong
Can't you see it's wrong

Humankind has reached a turning point
Poised for conflict at ground zero
Ready for a war
Do we look to our unearthly guide
Or to white coat heroes
Searching for a cure

Turn to the light
Don't be frightened of the shadows it creates
Turn to the light
Turning away would be a terrible mistake

Anarchistic moral vision
Industries of death
Facing violent opposition
Unmolested breathe

Ethic inquisitions breed
Antagonistic views
Right wing sound bite premonitions
In a labyrinth of rules

Are you justified
Are you justified
Are you justified
Justified in taking
Life to save life
Life to save life
Taking life to save life

This embryonic clay
Wrapped in fierce debate
Would be thrown away
Or otherwise discarded

Some of us believe
It may hold the key
To treatment of disease
And secrets highly guarded

Are you justified
Are you justified
Are you justified
Justified in taking
Life to save life
Life to save life
Life to save life

Human kind has reached a turning point
Poised for conflict at ground zero
Ready for a war
Do we look to our unearthly guide
Or to white coat heroes
Searching for a cure

Turn to the light
Don't be frightened of the shadows it creates
Turn to the light
Turning away would be a terrible mistake

We're reaching
But have we gone too far

Harvesting existence
Only to destroy
Carelessly together
We are sliding

Someone else's future
Four days frozen still
Someone else's fate
We are deciding

Miracle potential
Sanctity of life
Faced against each other
We're divided

Should we push the boundaries
Or should we condemn
Moral guilt and science
Have collided

Turn to the light
We defy our own mortality these days
Turn to the light
Pay attention to the questions we have raised

Visions of Johanna - Bob Dylan

Ain't it just like the night to play tricks when you're tryin' to be so quiet?
We sit here stranded, though we're all doin' our best to deny it
And Louise holds a handful of rain, temptin' you to defy it
Lights flicker from the opposite loft
In this room the heat pipes just cough
The country music station plays soft
But there's nothing, really nothing to turn off
Just Louise and her lover so entwined
And these visions of Johanna that conquer my mind

In the empty lot where the ladies play blindman's bluff with the key chain
And the all-night girls they whisper of escapades out on the "D" train
We can hear the night watchman click his flashlight
Ask himself if it's him or them that's really insane
Louise, she's all right, she's just near
She's delicate and seems like the mirror
But she just makes it all too concise and too clear
That Johanna's not here
The ghost of 'lectricity howls in the bones of her face
Where these visions of Johanna have now taken my place

Now, little boy lost, he takes himself so seriously
He brags of his misery, he likes to live dangerously
And when bringing her name up
He speaks of a farewell kiss to me
He's sure got a lotta gall to be so useless and all
Muttering small talk at the wall while I'm in the hall
How can I explain?
Oh, it's so hard to get on
And these visions of Johanna, they kept me up past the dawn

Inside the museums, Infinity goes up on trial
Voices echo this is what salvation must be like after a while
But Mona Lisa musta had the highway blues
You can tell by the way she smiles
See the primitive wallflower freeze
When the jelly-faced women all sneeze
Hear the one with the mustache say, "Jeeze
I can't find my knees"
Oh, jewels and binoculars hang from the head of the mule
But these visions of Johanna, they make it all seem so cruel

The peddler now speaks to the countess who's pretending to care for him
Sayin', "Name me someone that's not a parasite and I'll go out and say a prayer for him"
But like Louise always says
"Ya can't look at much, can ya man?"
As she, herself, prepares for him
And Madonna, she still has not showed
We see this empty cage now corrode
Where her cape of the stage once had flowed
The fiddler, he now steps to the road
He writes ev'rything's been returned which was owed
On the back of the fish truck that loads
While my conscience explodes
The harmonicas play the skeleton keys and the rain
And these visions of Johanna are now all that remain

Kashmir - Lampshade.

you'd be surprised if you looked through the eyes of a nova
not recognizing the molehills on top of the star
cheerful and swollen he waves from his seat in a rover
that is his car

you wouldn't doubt him shake the most powerful hands of importance
changing the world as we know it by leaving his ink
to judge from the fence 'round his house he must love all his children
that's what you think

but there's no time to think
have a pill and a shrink
just don't show us how you sweat
making love to your kids
is the last love that you will ever get

you're a vanishing image of what I thought I knew
but it comes to show
that the man I know -

is kissing that cheek that she had lifted up for her forty first birthday
love is when someone you trust cuts a smile in your face
boy had a dog and poor girl had a stroke like an earthquake
now dog is a bird

but there's no time to think
have a pill and a shrink
just don't show us how you sweat
making love to your kids
is the last love that you will ever get

you're a vanishing image of what i thought I knew
but it comes to show
that the man I know
has a fading glow
in a white lampshade

tell me lamshade the truth did you cover his soul
did you protect all the horrible
I shall tear you apart so that everyone knows
what he's been carrying around

tell me lampshade what is it you're trying to hide
under your stinky old corduroy
I shall rip and be shattered by the shrapnell of light
that I've been choking on always

there's a dog barking close within the range of my ear
sounds like he wants to escape the chain
he would probably bite me to death if he could
but the chain lets me spit in his face

like the dog has a chain clinging tight to it's neck
this man is tied to his secrecy
I would like to have killed him off in this last verse
but instead I removed his lampshade.

If you want me then come and get me I'm leaving this world behind. If you hate me then try and take me your words won't even brake my stride.

As I wave my last goodbye I won't feel shame I won't ask why. Theres no place to hold my pain, there's no heaven for those who pray. As I leave this world behind, every woman man and child, I won't hear you call my name I need a place where souls can stay.

Give me
Your dirty love
Like you might surrender
To some dragon in your dreams
Give me
Your dirty love
Like a pink donation
To the dragon in your dreams

I don't need your sweet devotion
I don't want your cheap emotion
Just whip me up some dragon lotion
For your dirty love

Give me
Your dirty love
Like some tacky little pamphlet
In your daddy's bottom drawer
Give me
Your dirty love
I don't believe you have ever seen
That book before

I don't need no consolation
I don't want your reservation
I only got one destination
An' that's your dirty love

Give me
Your dirty love
Just like your mama
Make her fuzzy poodle do
Give me
Your dirty love

Make that nasty poodle chew

I'll ignore your cheap aroma
And your little-bo-peep diploma
I'll just put you in a coma

My Old Man, Lou Reed

When I was a young boy in Brooklyn
going to public school
During recess in the concrete playground
they lined us up by twos
In alphabetical order, Reagan, Reed and Russo
I still remember the names
And stickball and stoopball were the only games
that we played

And I wanted to be like my old man
I, I wanted to grow up just like my old man
I wanted to be like my old man

I wanted to dress like, I wanted to be just like
I wanted to act like my old man
I wanted to be like, I wanted to act like
I wanted to be just like my old man

And then like everyone else I started to grow
And I didn't want to be like my father anymore
I was sick of his bullying
and having to hide under a desk on the floor
And when he beat my mother
it made me so mad I could choke

And I didn't want to be like my old man
I, I didn't even want to look like my old man
I didn't even want to seem like my old man

A son watches his father, being cruel to his mother
and makes a vow to return only when
He is so much richer, in every way so much bigger that -
- the old man will never hit anyone again

Like my old man (just like my old man)
like my old man
Like my old man (just like my old man)
like my old man
and can you believe what he said to me
he said, "Lou, act like a man" (walk like a man)
Why don't you act just like a man
act like your daddy, act like a man (just like my old man)
Oh, why don't you act just like a man
like your old man (walk like a man)
(Just like my old man)
(Just like my old man)

Honor Thy Father - Dream Theater

We're taught unconditional love
That blood is thicker than water
That a parent's world would revolve
Always around their son or their daughter

You pretended I was your own
And even believed that you loved me
But were always threatened by some
Invisible blood line that only you could see

You took advantage of an outreached hand
And twisted it to meet your every need
''Gimme time to re-charge my batteries,
I'll see her when she's older and I'll bounce her on my knee''

Well listen to me you ungrateful fool
Here comes a dose of reality
You'll go to your grave a sad and lonely man
The door is now closed on your pathetic little plan

On and on and on and on it goes
It's so easy to run away with nothing in tow

How can you ever sleep a wink at night
Pretending that everything is alright
And have the nerve to blame this mess on me

Never in my life have I seen someone
So Ignorant to the damage he has done
You're the rotted root in the family tree

I tried your 4 bill therapy
I tried to make amends
But nothing could lure you out of your selfish shell again
Expecting everyone to bow and kiss your feet
Don't you see respect is not a one way street
Blaming everyone for all that you've don e wrong
I'll get my peace of mind when you hear this song

On and on and on and on it goes
And with every passing day true colors show

How can you ever sleep a wink at night
Pretending that everything is alright
And have the balls to blame this mess on me

Never in my life have I seen someone
Oblivious to the damage he has done
You're the rotted root in the family tree

Watch where you walk
Don't you dare cross the crooked step
Watch the way you talk
Don't cross the crooked step

On and on and on and on it goes
Chauvinistic, heartless, selfish, cold

How can you ever sleep a wink at night
Pretending that everything is alright
And have the balls to blame this **** on me

Never in my life have I seen someone
So ****ing blind to the damage he has done
You're the rotted root in the family tree

Hey Matthew, what do you think of these?

"Before the Old Man Died" by Paul Kelly

I used to walk in shadows
I stayed out of the sun
I used to sort informtaion
and I used to pass it on

Before the old man died
Before we came alive
Before the old man died

I used to follow orders
Did my duty like a son
But I fell in love with whispers
And I turned them into songs

Before the old man died
Before we came alive
Before the old man died

For the way he ruined our mother
Not enough blood can run
We had plans me and my brother
Every day I cleaned the gun

Before the old man died
Before we came alive
Before the old man died
Before we came alive

this is how it works-
you're young, until you're not
you love until you don't
you try until you can't.
you laugh until you cry
you cry until you laugh
and everyone must breathe
until their dying breath.

no, this is how it works-
you peer inside yourself
you take the things you like
and try to love the things you took.
and then you take that love you made
and stick it into some-
someone else's heart
pumping someone else's blood.
and walking arm in arm

this is how it works-
you're young, until you're not
you love until you don't
you try until you can't.
you laugh until you cry
you cry until you laugh
and everyone must breathe
until their dying breath.

no, this is how it works-
you peer inside yourself
you take the things you like
and try to love the things you took.
and then you take that love you made
and stick it into some-
someone else's heart
pumping someone else's blood.
and walking arm in arm
you hope it don't get harmed
but even if it does, you'll just do it all again.

Sorry to bump up another old thread, but I do love this song,

"King Park" La Dispute

Another shooting on the southeast side. This a drive-by, mid-day,
Outside of the bus stop, by Fuller and Franklin. Or near there.
Not far from the park. About a block from where the other shooting was last month.
Or was it last week?

Shots were fired from an SUV heading northbound, Eastown,
The target a rival but they didn't hit the target this time.
They hit a kid we think had nothing to do with it.

And I travel backwards through time and space and I disintegrate, become invisible.
I want to see it where I couldn't when it happened.
I want to see it all first hand this time.
I want to know what it felt like.

So I float behind police lines, reconstruct the scene in fragments of memories.
I want to know what his mother looked like up close, I want to see her leaning over his body.
So I float there, transcend time. I want to capture it accurately.
I want to know what the color of the blood was spilling out from the tarp onto the concrete.
I want to write it all down so I can always remember.
If you could see it up close how could you ever forget how senseless death, how precious life.
I want to be there when the bullet hit.

And the crowd poured out as the shots drowned into siren sounds, out of there houses now
And over front yards, all the way up to the place where the police tape ran to mark the crime
Scene. Everybody trying to catch a glimpse of what was happening,
Of what was going on between the ambulance and all the cop cars.
Everybody gossiping, “Whose kid got hit? Where'd it hit him? And who could've fired it?”
Everybody wondering, “How did it happen again? And is he dead? These children. Our kids.”
Everybody wondering how far they were from where the victims lived.

And I visit them, their houses. Inside my dream I visit them.
My spirit, soaring high and high up over King Park, leaves the crime scene, travels further back
Till far before the shooting, through their windows, to their living rooms.
I see them younger this time, playing games and doing homework.
All these marks of youth soon transformed coldly into stone for fights and stupid feuds.
For ruins wrapped in gold. And cruelly I recall why I have come: To find a reason. But
There cannot be a reason, not for death, not like this. Not like this.

Three days later they made funeral plans. The family.
Three days later a mother had to bury her son.

Not far away the shooter holed up in a hotel near to the highway with a friend and the gun.
That same gun. He'd fled immediately but was identified by witnesses, his picture on TV.
Only 20 years old, they called him “Grandpa.” He was older than the others by a year,
Maybe two.

And he was safe for awhile until somebody saw him there and notified the authorities
Who surrounded the hotel, first arresting an accomplice while attempting to flee,
Then chasing him up the staircase to the floor where he'd stayed. He closed the door hard
Behind him, locked himself in the room.

They could've kicked in the door but knew the gun was still with him,
One he'd already used and so they feared what he'd do.
I floated up through the window of a room to the West.
I hovered out to the hallway, tried to listen in.
I heard them trying to reason, get him to open the door.
His uncle begging and pleading, half-collapsed to the floor.
He preached of hope and forgiveness,
Said, “There is always a chance to rectify what you've taken, make your peace in the world.”
I thought to slip through the door, I could've entered the room,
I felt the burden of murder, it shook the earth to the core.
Felt like the world was collapsing. Then we heard him speak,
“Can I still get into heaven if I kill myself?
Can I still get into heaven if I kill myself?
Can I ever be forgiven cause I killed that kid?
It was an accident I swear it wasn't meant for him!
And if I turn it on me, if I even it out, can I still get in or will they send me to hell?
Can I still get into heaven if I kill myself?”
I left the hotel behind, don't want to know how it ends.

Carpet Crawlers - Genesis

There is lambswool under my naked feet.
The wool is soft and warm,
- gives off some kind of heat.
A salamander scurries into flame to be destroyed.
Imaginary creatures are trapped in birth on celluloid.
The fleas cling to the golden fleece,
Hoping they'll find peace.
Each thought and gesture are caught in celluloid.
There's no hiding in my memory.
There's no room to a void.

The crawlers cover the floor in the red ochre corridor.
For my second sight of people, they've more lifeblood than before.
They're moving in time to a heavy wooden door,
Where the needle's eye is winking, closing in on the poor.
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
"We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out."

There's only one direction in the faces that I see;
It's upward to the ceiling, where the chamber's said to be.
Like the forest fight for sunlight, that takes root in every tree.
They are pulled up by the magnet, believing they're free.
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
"We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out."

Mild mannered supermen are held in kryptonite,
And the wise and foolish virgins giggle with their bodies glowing bright.
Through a door a harvest feast is lit by candlelight;
It's the bottom of a staircase that spirals out of sight.
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
"We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out."

The porcelain mannikin with shattered skin fears attack.
The eager pack lift up their pitchers - they carry all they lack.
The liquid has congealed, which has seeped out through the crack,
And the tickler takes his stickleback.
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
"We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out."

We Fight For Love - Power Station

I will protect you
Nothing can hurt you
No storm clouds gathering terrify

I am a mountain
Surrounded by your love
You are a mountain that dreams are made of

We fight for love
We fight for love
Fight for love

Somewhere... somehow... someone
Somewhere... somehow... someone

I fight with fire
As I watch them conspire
To blow my world apart

Between the light
And the endless night
You will always be in my heart

We fight for love
We fight for love
Fight for love
We fight for love

Somewhere... somehow... someone
Somewhere... somehow... someone

AND

Iris - Goo Goo Dolls

And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
When sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah, you'd bleed just to know you're alive

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am

Carpet Crawlers - Genesis

Interestingly, a verse from another The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway song by Genesis - 'Counting Out Time' - has been in my head lately.

I'm counting out time, reaction none too happy
Please don't slap me
I'm a red-blooded male and the book said I could not fail
I'm counting out time, I got unexpected distress from my mistress
I'll get my money back from the bookstore right away
Erogenous zones I question you -Without you, what would a poor boy do?
Without you, what would a poor boy do?
Without you, mankind handkinds thru' the blues

I just posted this song somewhere else, but I find this song to be one of the best written songs to exist:

Something Vague - Bright Eyes
Songwriter: Conor Oberst

Now and again
It seems worse than it is
But mostly the view is accurate
You see your breath in the air
As you climb up the stairs
To that coffin you call your apartment
And you sink in your chair
Brush the snow from your hair
And drink the cold away
You're not really sure
What you're doing this for
But you need something to fill up the days
A few more hours

There's a dream in my brain
That just won’t go away
It has been stuck there since it came
A few nights ago
I’m standing on a bridge
In the town where I lived
As a kid with my mom and my brothers
And then the bridge disappears
And I’m standing on air
With nothing holding me
And I hang like a star
****ing glow in the dark
For all those starving eyes to see
Like the ones we’ve wished on

But now I’m confused
Is this death really you?
Do these dreams have any meaning?
No, no, I think it's more like a ghost
That's been following us both
Something vague that we're not seeing
Something more like a feeling.

I used to love John Frusciante's lyrics - Going Inside,Remain and some of the tracks from The Empyrian album. Now,I don't listen to him as much but his lyrics are good.

Also Pink Floyd(I'm particularly interesting in the album The Wall) has lots of songs with great lyrics - Another Brick In The Wall,Hey You,Comfortably Numb,Time,Money and so on.

Recently,I've been listening to Lennon's Working Class Hero, quite a sad song yet such accurate words in it. :/

Working Class Hero:

By giving you no time instead of it all
'Til the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate if you're clever and despise a fool
'Til you're so **** crazy you can't follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function, you're so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still **** peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

There's room at the top, they're telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like all the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

If you want to be a hero, well, just follow me
If you want to be a hero, well, just follow me

Going Inside:

You don't throw your life away
Going inside
You get to know who's watching you
And who besides you resides
In your body
Where you're slow
Where you go doesn't matter
'cause there will come a time
When time goes out the window
And you'll learn to drive out of focus
I'm you and if anything unfolds
It's supposed to
You don't throw your time away sitting still
I'm in a chain of memories
It's my will
And I had to consult some figures of my past
And I know someone after me
Will go right back
I'm not telling a view
I've got this night to unglue
I moved this fight away
By doing things there's no reason to do

BRMC - Devils' Waitin'

Out on the corner with cast iron blood
Ten thousand or more with hearts on the run
They say I might die and I may be cold
I may have no Jesus I may have no soul
In prison I hear there's time to be good
But the first thing you see is the last thing you should

They say there's a passing where all stand to judge
But the devil's a waitn' with Christ like a son
When the look comes your way you best say was I
For the reasons you hold give reasons to die
The callings' impatient when cause never won
But the last one to say it may last through the flood

I'm born in and weary but life's just begun
And I've run from the reasons and run to the gun
They say I'm the killer and thy will be done
And the doors won't be open when I've finally become

I've seen the battle and I've seen the war
And the life out here is the life I've been sold
Yah I've seen the battle and I've seen the war
And the life in here is the life I've been told

Fallin fast but we've no cares
We know our lord's gonna meet us there
We pray our lords gonna meet us there
We know our lords gonna meet us there
Fallin fast but we've no cares
We know our lords gonna meet us there
We pray our lords gonna meet us there

Well, Frankie Lee and Judas Priest
They were the best of friends
So when Frankie Lee needed more money one day
Judas quickly pulled out a roll of tens
And placed them on a footstool
Just above the plotted plain
Sayin', "Take your pick, Frankie Boy
My loss will be your gain".

Well, Frankie Lee, he sat right down
And put his fingers to his chin
But with the cold eyes of Judas on him
His head began to spin
"Would ya please not stare at me like that", he said
"It's just my foolish pride
But sometimes a man must be alone
And this is no place to hide".

Well, Judas he just winked and said
"All right, I'll leave you here
But you'd better hurry up and choose
Which of those bills you want
Before they all disappear"
"I'm gonna start my pickin' right now
Just tell me where you''ll be".

Judas pointed down the road
And said, "Eternity"
"Eternity?" said Frankie Lee
With a voice as cold as ice
"That's right", said Judas Priest, "Eternity
Though you might call it Paradise"
"I don't call it anything"
Said Frankie Lee with a smile
"All right", said Judas Priest
"I'll see you after a while".

Well, Frankie Lee, he sat back down
Feelin' low and mean
When just then a passing stranger
Burst upon the scene
Saying, "Are you Frankie Lee, the gambler
Whose father is deceased?
Well, if you are
There's a fellow callin' you down the road
And they say his name is Priest".
"Oh yes, he is my friend"
Said Frankie Lee in fright
"I do recall him very well
In fact, he just left my sight"
Yes, that's the one", said the stranger
As quiet as a mouse.
"Well, my message is, he's down the road
Stranded in a house".

Well, Frankie Lee he panicked
He dropped ev'rythimg and ran
Until he came up to the spot
Where Judas Priest did stand
"What kind of a house is this", he said
"Where I have come to roam?"
"It's not a house", said Judas Priest
"It's not a house, it's a home".

Well, Frankie Lee he trembled
He soon lost all control
Over ev'rything which he had made
While the mission bells did toll
He just stood there staring
At that big house as bright as any sun
With four and twenty windows
And a woman's face in ev'ry one.

Well, up the stairs ran Frankie Lee
With a soulful bounding leap
And foaming at the mouth
He began to make his midnight creep
For sixteen nights and days he raved
But on the seventeenth he burst
Into the arms of Judas Priest
Which is where he died of thirst.

No one tried to say a thing
When they carried him out in jest
Except of course, the little neighbor boy
Who carried him to rest
And he just walked along alone
Whit his guilt so well concealed
And muttered underneath his breath
"Nothing is revealed".

Well, the moral of the story
The moral of the song
Is simply that one should never be
Where ones does not belong
So when you see your neighbor carryin' somethin'
Help him with his load
And don't go mistaking Paradise
For that home across the road.

Nick Cave, Little empty Boat:
I can't help but imagine you
All postured and prone
But there's a little guy on my shoulder
Says I should go home alone

But you keep leaning in on me
And you're looking a little pissed
That grave you've dug between your legs
Is hard to resist

Now I`m at the hairdressers
People watch me as they move past
A guy wearing plastic antlers
Presses his bum against the glass
Now I`m down on my hands and knees

Someone cries, "What are you looking for?"
I scream, "The plot, the plot!" Death Cab for Cutie, Sound of settling:

And it came to me then
That every plan
Is a tiny prayer to father time

As I stared at my shoes
In the ICU
That reeked of piss and 409

And I rationed my breaths
As I said to myself
That I'd already taken too much today

The Dear Hunter

Darkness, hesitation
I fell into her arms
Breathe in, this is amazing
Breathe out, this is amazing.

She removed her clothes and all of the world shined
Now that we're alone all of the world shines.

First hot breath, then cold hands
Intrusion, but aware
The fire inside was all light and she bloomed
And I never knew life could ever be this good.

The distant sighs, the clothes on the floor
The bedding a mess, she sings for more.

We fall beneath the sea in the back of our hearts and fail to breathe until we resurface again.

She had the summer's smile with winter's skin
And all along with words beyond me she welcomed me in.

We fall beneath the sea in the back of our hearts and fail to breathe until we resurface again.

Jay Z - "Jigga What, Jigga Who", 1st verse:

Muthaf--kas wanna act loco?
Hit 'em with, numerous
Shots with the 44
F-ggots wanna talk to po po?
Smoke 'em like cocoa
F--k rap
Coke by the boatload
F--k that
On the run by, gun high, one eye closed
Left holes through some guy's clothes
Stoppin' bulls--t
Glock with the full clip
Muthaf--kas better jump when the fool spit
One shot could make a n--ga do a full flip
See the n--ga laying shocked when the bullet hit
Oh hey man, how you?
Know n--gas wanna buy you
But see me, I wanna f--k for free
Like Akineyle
Take this ride, make you feel it inside your belly
If it's tight, get the KY Jelly
All day, all night
Moving side to side
Til you say, "Jay Z, you're too much for me"!\

:D:D Fair play, those are some of the worst lyrics I've ever heard. In my humble, white, middle class opinion of course.

Honor Thy Father - Dream Theater
Dream Theater? I'm in.

A Nightmare To Remember by Dream Theater [X] (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4RQmEiNdsZ8)
Lying on the table in this unfamiliar place,
I'm greeted by a stranger, a man without a face.
He said, "Son, do you remember? Do you even know your name?"
Then he shined a light into my eyes and said, "take this for the pain."

Hopelessly drifting, bathing in beautiful agony.
I am endlessly falling, lost in this wonderful misery.
In peaceful sedation, I lay half awake and all of the panic inside starts to fade.
Hopelessly drifting, bathing in beautiful agony.

"Tell me does this hurt you?" said the faceless man.
"Can you move all of your fingers? Can you try your best to stand?"
I asked about the others, "Is everyone OK?"
He told me not to worry as he turned and looked away.

Hopelessly drifting, bathing in beautiful agony.
I am endlessly falling, lost in this wonderful misery.
In peaceful sedation, I lay half awake and all of the panic inside starts to fade.
Hopelessly drifting, bathing in beautiful agony.

that I will never ever choose to be.
Oh so many ways for me to show you
how your savior has abandoned you.

**** your god! Your lord, your Christ!
He did this! Took all you had and-
Left you this way! Still you pray, you never stray never-
Taste of the fruit! You never thought to question why.

It's not like you killed someone.
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side.
Praise the one who left you broken down and paralyzed.
He did it all for you.

Most my time I've spent thinking about,
like who I am, what I’m supposed to be.
I've tried it all; school and dead end jobs,
but now I know that there's a higher purpose for me.

I will rule this whole universe!
Assemble my own terror regime!
I'll ban all laws and commercial TV.
Start to sound pretty cool, now you bet-ter-well-god-damn-a-gree!

Kill the king! Long live my tyranny.
I´ll give you anarchy, for all, I give you anarchy!
So kill the king, and let the revolution sing.
All shall... all shall obey or die!

Hail my chaos royale!

Gonna build a giant killing machine.
No one will dare to stand up or oppose!
Enslave the earth with an iron fist,
now the whole world is my personal bitch!

I´ll put an end to all music that sucks,

No hipster ****, radio rock, bubblegum DJ pop.

And when my mind is free
You know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue
A guitar's comin' through to soothe me
Thanks for the joy that you've given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
And rhythm and rhyme and harmony
You've helped me along, makin' me strong
Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock 'n' roll and drift away
