Well, I'm leaving very early this Wednesday morning for NYC (where I'm from) to meet up with the family, then drive down with them for another family member's wedding in Maryland. Then we drive back up to NYC, where I'll hang out for a few days. I should be back in Canada around May 7th.

Hubby's not coming with me, so I expect to have a terrific time. ;)

This seems to be a perfect thread to which I can say something about this site.

I joined this forum many years ago -- I don't remember -- and I posted often and was very warmly welcomed. I think Yoda is a great administrator. I remember going through a serious illness and everyone being so nice.

I'm sure no-one here is even wondering why I leave this place for a long time and then return for a little bit, but I'll explain anyway. ;)

THIS PLACE IS ADDICTING.

I get addicted. I am powerless over this website when I come here. I want to read all the threads, jump in, get the last word, lol, respond to people, see if I get reputation, give reputation, get to "know" new posters, and argue incessantly over films (and politics, right, Yoda?)

And I can't get addicted. I'm a teacher with papers to grade and lessons to plan. A mother who has to deal with grown up sons who are more needy than they should be. A homeowner who has to clean the house and pay the bills. A woman who needs to read books and engage in all manner of pop culture (TV and movies mostly).

So, if you ever wonder why I leave and come back, it is because this place is addicting.

Well, for those who don't know yet, I'm having surgery on the 21st of this month. I've barely been on these past two weeks or so, because of how bad I feel. I am e-mailing him now to see what I can take to help this. I'm also emailing him because I looked up the surgery, and a lot of people say they hurt like hell for a long time after, and have other problems. Now I'm seriously worried.

They send you home on the same day of surgery, as long as nothing goes wrong, but I don't see me sitting over here for some time. I will however, try to Kindle a fast post in here saying, "Home and OK!".
Before surgery, I'm just going to keep an eye on the theme thread, and the pictures thread. I will also get 3-4 grill threads going, if possible. That will be enough of those until I get going again.

p.s. The surgery is for a hernia. I had a bad infection, and my white blood cells were way off when I had my gall bladder removed. I had an infection in the lower incision after the surgery, and now I have this. I still believe they also seriously weakened the tissue when they blew up my stomach for that Laparoscopic surgery. Hopefully this is the end of it all.

I'm happy to hear I still have time. I thought I was going to miss it.

Thanks a lot about the surgery, which is actually my second surgery in the past seven months, but it is actually over. However, it was a one day surgery that ended up being three days in the hospital. In the end, I lied about how I was doing just so I could come on home. I was down for another three weeks. Now just about everything in my life that can go wrong, is seriously messing up. I actually said "**** it!", laid down with my head phones on, and ignored everyone for a few weeks. I've never lost it before. Now that I have, I'm not a fan. I'm a little more sane, but still have many things to correct in my life. I want to do this list though, because it's a favorite decade of movies for me, and I've been watching a lot of them lately during my ride back to sanity.

I hope all is going great in your life . . . and the same to the rest of you.

Heads up. The next three weeks are going to be crazy. Things a bit hectic at the minute. Aside from Baby Samoan Lawyer on the way, I just last week found out I got a promotion in work which starts this week. Stag dos have certainly changed a lot in my lifetime. Now it might still be alcohol fuelled but they seem to involve a lot of adventure pursuits/camping/days and weekends or even weeks away on holiday. The biggest change has been that they're often weeks or months before the wedding. Gone are the wedding day hangover, or like our wedding eve my dad was so much the worse for wear that my husband to be along with my brother had to stay sober to carry him home :D

I couldn't wait to get home to watch a movie, and I saw that my TV was gone... Then I notice all my instruments are stolen. Cameras, mp3 player, everything. I watch most of my movies via HMDI (also stolen). And when you live in Flint, you're considered trash. My sister has been induced for labor, and I'm afraid to leave this uninsured rented house again. No forced entry. I never use the back door, and I noticed it wasn't dead bolted like usual. I think it was my next door neighbor. She lived here before. She called me saying "A little Mexican guy has a bunch of instruments, a lawn mower, TV, etc" but didn't call the police. She said "I noticed the blinds in your music room was tampered with" (one tiny column was out of place, right by her window). When I said I was calling the police, she said "Wesley has to leave then, he has warrants out for his arrest" - she told me months ago he broke into the storage facility down the road. He also cuts my grass, and I just noticed the lock on the cellar isn't there. She even said "Someone stole my clothes" - of course the other neighbor had nothing taken after I went to talk to him. The police said they'd come to any other place, except Flint. My life is music and movies, and it's gone, and I have about 75 cents... I know people go through worse, but having a loaded gun to my head a few months ago in front of my house was bad enough, and with my baby sister ready to give birth an hour away, it's a bit too much.

It's very hard to keep the chin up when the negatives of life outweigh the positives. But I appreciate it, and every other messages from here. I went through some crazy stuff a few days ago. I let everyone know to never come over unannounced. My mom came over for a stinkin' $10 coupon. Then, she locked me in, and had to break into my house. I'm sure whoever broke in heard it and thought "If he can break in, so can I."

I keep finding things that are gone. I wanted to smoke some ganja, gone.. Seems like someone was in here for hours. I want to go see my sister tomorrow, since she'll probably be due in a few hours, but I'm not leaving my house....

I've been homeless before, and I feel it coming. I feel like vomiting. Life didn't get lower than that, especially being homeless here in Flint.

Ok Matt, we all hope for the best for you here, but the fact that you only have 75 cents to your name has nothing to do with being robbed of a bunch of items you can live without. If you're not working, you need to be. If there's no work in Flint, leave. Get an entry level job at McDonald's. If you have no wife or kids to support, you're not in that bad of shape. But..., you need to have your head on straight-no drugs or alcohol. And seriously, shave that crap off your face and head so you can stop looking like a homeless person. People will look at you differently, and maybe a change will make you feel differently and give you a more positive outlook. If the only thing keeping you in Flint is a craphole apartment, find a way to get enough money to get a bus ticket, a couple weeks worth of white rice, and get the hell out of that hellhole. Get into a shelter in a safe neighborhood and find any stinking job job that will help you survive. Then you go from there. A smart, healthy, and capable man can do a lot when he's not tied down or wanted by the police. My parents and I lived at the Salvation Army shelter for several months after we moved from Chicago to Boston about 30 years ago. It's all about keeping your head together and making good decisions. I was watching an episode of The Boondocks last night. In it the grandad opened up a restaraunt in a nice area but the people ended up addicted to his food, so they started robbing people in the area for money to buy his food. Anyway the grandad was mugged and when he goes to phone the police Huey points out to him that the police won't come here now because it is a bad neighbourhood now. It made me think of what happened to you and that i know i've seen this sort of thing brought up in US media (meaning movies/shows not the news) before but it was something i always thought of as a joke or an overexaggeration.

Don't know, to me it just sounds like something you couldn't imagine actually happening in a country like the US. The police refusing to come to your area i mean, not robberies obviously. Think it shows me how sheltered i actually am and i don't realize or appreciate it enough.
