My chicken is illegal in twelve systems.
I try to tell em' to try it on for size sometime...it might chafe at first, but they'll be better for it in the long run.

The use of hallucinogenic drugs in religious ceremonies by various Indigenous peoples dates back thousands of years… and, today, one of the major users in the United States is the Native American Church, of which, I am not a member of… however, I do believe in their right to practice their beliefs… but just to set the record straight, the use of peyote or marijuana was forbidden by my elders except for extreme medical conditions…

I've read through all the comments behind, and its nice to see that (for the most part) this has been a civilized conversation. Its interesting to see how people feel about issues such as the use of drugs, and these kind of discussions only lead to education. Now onto my feelings.
I'm a pretty young guy who was essentially living a sin-free life. So this year, after seeing my friends having some fun with pot, I decided to give it whirl. I'm not going to lie, I enjoy the stuff, and I have a lot of great stories of my buddies and I doing the grass. I live a pretty stress free life, so I don't think I did it because of deep-seeded depression, it was just something I was curious about and needed to get out of my system. So I did. I've smoked maybe a dozen times, or about once or twice a month, and when I do it, I make sure I have free time and don't do anything dangerous while I'm on it. I don't consider myself a pothead because that implies a need to do it a lot, which I don't. If someone important to me in my life told me to stop because they saw it becoming addicting to me I would. I see some of my friends falling into the pothead life and some of them do want to mess with other drugs, and I plan on talking to them. I'll probably smoke some this summer, and I'm sure I'll do some later in life and I don't feel bad about it. But the second I see that my grades are going down in school or that people are starting to see me as a pothead, I will stop for good. Until then, I guess I'll be the social smoker.
I've read through all the comments behind...
Wow, even mine? You have stamina sir. I salute you ;)
...and its nice to see that (for the most part) this has been a civilized conversation.

I have a feeling that one day I will try injecting heroin. I love painkillers, and I'm not one of those who cares to live to be 120 years old. I joked to someone earlier today that I couldn't wait to turn 63 and use the first Social Security check to buy all the equipment. But now that I think of it, SS might be done with by then, so maybe I should not wait so long.
I've been prescribed hydrocodone many times, very recently as well. I don't like pain, and I don't worry about being addicted. I am also prescribed 3mg of Xanax to fall asleep at night, but I never ever take them during the day, I just wait til evening, and an hour later I start to smoke grass, which I try not to smoke during the day, but I am addicted to the smoking part, but it helps me sleep, and it's nice to be fully relaxed for an hour or so.
I don't like stimulants so I won't be experimenting there. I love the taste of coffee, so sometimes I'll have a little bit if someone around me is (like this morning).
I hate the taste of magic shrooms, but I'm waiting for the right moment, when I'm away in nature. LSD is very fun, but probably best taken near a lake, with some nice music, when I'm all alone surrounded by peace.
I was usually the last one to try anything, never fell to peer pressure, it was usually by accident (injury, etc) or meeting a certain girl got me to drop alcohol and traded it for pot, which was probably a great thing, as I wasn't 21 yet. Had I been going to the bar every night and drinking I would have been broke and perhaps dead, or worse, killing others. It's been a few years since I had any alcohol, don't even remember the feeling, but I remember getting sick, having headaches, having to take a leak every 10 minutes, etc etc., probably something I won't ever do again. I would consider it my gateway drug. Most people do start with a cigarette, but you don't really get a buz except the first few times, and it's nothing euphoric, but drinking can REALLY change you, and it opened up my curiosity.

I knew there was a reason I liked you, Matt! ;)
But seriously... I've tried many things, but the one road I will never go down is intravenous (outside of being administered by a Dr. for a surgical procedure).
I don't have to do it to know that is the one way street you don't return from. It will destroy a person - it may not even kill them, but it will destroy them in every way before it leads to death. In the pursuit of feeling good, injecting heroin is a life sentence of suffering and misery like no other - a literal hell on earth for the user and everyone around them.

I was thinking of the euphoria I'd get 30 years from now, not truth. If I became a junkie at 70, oh well..

Drugs are bad, mmmkay.
It's actually kind of funny because I have a post on the first page of this thread from almost eleven years ago, and that's exactly how I felt eleven years ago. Since then I have done a plethora of drugs(no needles or amphetamines though, yuck) and actually feel as though I've learned and grown from the experiences, even though I no longer use anything other than Marijuana (which I use to medicate daily).
Also occasionally mushrooms, because they're a lot of fun. I once spent nine hours in a friends basement watching his walls/ceiling breathe and at one point I was looking at this poster on his wall which was folded from being in a game case, and the walls immediately took on a grid shape, and it was all the sudden like I was stuck in a tron/grid world. And this one time we spent three hours in a probably 100x80 foot tract of forest thinking we were hiking through the Carpathians or something.
In short, they can be fun if you appreciate them and respect the use of them and use them in a manner befitting of a rational human being. Otherwise GTFO.
I have a feeling that one day I will try injecting heroin.

It's his life, he can do what he wants to. I appreciate where you're coming from, I had junkies in my family, but I firmly believe it was their choice. It sucked for the rest of us, but who are we to decide their fates and make their life choices?
Besides at 70 years old, does it really matter? I don't really plan to live that long, some of us just aren't long for this world man.

What euphoria would you get 30 years from now?
Besides the euphoria, I'd be pain free as an old man. I've had back, neck and shoulder pain since my early 20's. When I'm Social Security age, I'm guessing the pain will be much worse, also guessing I won't be able to do the things I love, like playing the drums and everything else I like to do.
As I said earlier, I'm not only of those who want to live to be 120 years old. I rather now than later. There's are a million ways to die, I don't know the future, so if today is guaranteed, I wanna make the best out of of it.

Just because I try it for the first time as an old man, doesn't mean I'd do it again, or become an addict. I think this got wayyyyyyyyyyyyy out of hand.

It sounds like you really don't know what heroin addiction does.
The pain free euphoria is extremely fleeting.
In the beginning it may last a few hours or so, but that's the paradox of shooting heroin - when it wears off you begin to feel all your pain (emotional & physical) more intensely than before. So you need to shoot up again. But now the high only lasts an hour... then the pain. So you need to find more drugs to shoot up again. And the vicious circle of pain begins.
What starts to happen is the pain and the withdrawals come sooner and sooner as your tolerance to the drug builds. After a while, it's just constant pain and constant craving - and the craving is pain. The highs become shorter & shorter until you can't even tell if you're high anymore - then there's only pain. Physical pain, pain of withdrawals, pain of cravings that can't be satisfied, pain of having no more money to buy anymore drugs, pain of turning to crime to rob and hurt innocent people to get money, pain of being unable to have a job, pain of losing all your friends, pain of destroying your family, pain of losing your intellect, pain of no longer having any confidence in your self-control or your life, and the pain of ultimately hating yourself and everything you've become.

Matt you should watch an HBO special on black tar heroin. Curious about the experience? Ever wonder whats its like to be shot with a gun? See, you dont always have to scratch that itch, and the risks and dangers are greater from heroin than a gunshot wound.
Ive lost some friends to painkillers, not them dying but being at best functional junkies. The painkiller epidemic is #1 proof why they cant legalize drugs. Truth is, they still cant control it. Weed isnt synthetic heroin, and will go mainstream eventually.
I try not to drink at all, and when I do just small doses. I smoke weed. For someone with tendency to be high strung its a better fit. Ive got to give up the weed, quit smoking cigs, and go straight edge. Im sure my nerves and psyche will be a complete spectacle for a good month
