Well, they sure made us wait for it, but I finally got to see the first two episodes of season 3 and they were worth the wait. I initially wanted to throw my shoe at the screen when it was revealed that we had a one year time jump. I usually hate time jumps on TV shows because it allows the writers to rewrite stuff from the previous season that didn't work, gloss over it, or just pretend it didn't happen, but II understand why they did it after watching this episodes. I have to admit I was very pleased to learn that Deborah's television special was a smash and that she is on top again. It was a little disturbing that Deborah was given no clue of anything going on in her personal life, they have her all about her career now and that's OK, but there was this sinking feeling I got as watched Deborah in these two episodes. Everything seems to be going so well for Deborah right now and it seems like they are setting her up for some kind of really serious fall, but I have no idea what it might be. Maybe it might have something to do with her nutty daughter, DJ (Kaitlin Olson) who was conspicuous in her absence from these first two episodes. So glad that Ava (Hannah Einbinder) in employed and loved her reunion with Deborah...the second she was running for that elevator I knew Deborah would be in there. I didn't really understand that long tracking shot that opened ep 1 that appeared to be Deborah from the back and it turned out to be a look-alike. Really didn't understand that. Jean Smart nailed that scene where Deborah was onstage and got frustrated with the audience who was laughing at everything she said without her putting any effort into it. I also loved her trip to her clothes warehouse to pick out that gown and I'm sorry, I'm with Ava on this one, that gown was hideous and loved that they agreed the only impartial judge had to be a gay guy. Loved Jean and Hannah's work in that scene in Deborah's suite with the cake...loved the referencing of cake and Kirsten Dunst and Marie Antoinette. That story of the copyright infringement was interesting and I liked the way Marcus handled it, but as CEO, Marcus should have been on that first, Deborah shouldn't have had to have been bringing that to him, though that the scene with Marcus and obsessed fan where they were quizzing each other about who knew Deborah best had me on the floor. It seems like the writers aren't sure what to do with Jimmy and Kayla this season. Everything they did in this episodes just seemed on the periphery of main story. LOVED Deborah's triumphant guest hosting of the late night show and I knew the minute that Ava found that ring that it wasn't what she thought it was, though Ruby's reaction was a little over the top. Also loved the opening moments of ep 2 where Deborah and Ava were texting each other constantly like girlfriends. Season 3 is off to a solid start, but I'm feeling a big fall for Deborah coming.
