That elusive hide-and-seek cow is at it again
sliced my finger pretty good tonight cleaning a pocket knife. got it to stop bleeding with pressure, but soon as i let go it started flowing again. managed to get a bandaid on it, but i could tell that it wasn’t coagulating because of its location. so i cobbled together a splint to keep me from bending the area with the cut, but knew i was gonna need it properly cleaned and dressed and a tetanus shot.*

called an urgent care run by our city’s biggest medical provider and they told me they had no bookings left (um, what? that’s not urgent care) and to go to the ER cause i was gonna need x-rays and deliverance from evil or some shit.

managed to get a ride over to one of the independent urgent care places (which is likea miracle they were open) and they took the time to help me. this is what the consumerization of healthcare gets you. doctors can’t find nothing wrong with you if you just don’t go… 😅

EDIT: thank god it weren’t one of my thumbs!
IKEA MIRACLES FTW!!!!!

i guess y’all missed that Seinfeld reference

EDIT: took the splint off a couple times today to keep it mobile, and at some point i’d smack it against something and cry. when they took my BP at urgent care it was 130/85, and i’m usually 110/75. that’s when i knew it was a serious cut lol

EDIT2: I really hate tetanus shots

Glad you're on the mend. And I like that your pictures are like a finger having an identity crisis. What will be its final form?!

EDIT2: I really hate tetanus shots
I had to get a tetanus shot at the urgent care one weekend because one of my roosters gave me a deep puncture wound with his talon, and I had to explain this several times to the bemused people at the front desk. When I left I looked down at my paperwork and under "reason for visit" it said ROOSTER ATTACK in all capital letters.

that is too funny. i keep telling people i cut myself due to operator error

EDIT: i’m usually really good about knife safety. i stop and think “wait, if i **** this cut up where is this blade going?” and then violent imagery of a possible error makes me go “no, no, don’t wanna do that”. respect it or get bit. and this is why i work with computers. low stakes

And I'm usually pretty good about rooster safety! (Ie, do not turn your back on the sassy rooster). Their talons are pretty hardcore and have punctured through a pair of thick rubber boots. But I was in a rush and didn't keep track of where he was.

i am currently kicking myself in the face for not switching to the HMO plan at work. i got to thinking about it the other day that my medical stuff isn't as screwy now (i.e. going out of state/seeing specialists), so i went and look. and holy shit i am soooo overpaying right now.

GUYS!!!
*cough cough*
I'm still sick!

I lost all my energy Saturday before last and ended up sleeping till noon. Same on Sunday. I ended up taking both Monday and Tuesday off with a low-grade fever, tummy demons, and a headache. Tuesday, I seemed better but took the day off to be safe. Wednesday was back to work. By Friday, I was feeling pretty good so decided to take Kelly out for an easy dinner. By the end of the night my fever came back, I started coughing, and that sent my weekend down a mini spiral. Now, I have a chest full-O-snawt and can't stop coughing.

I am TIRED OF THIS!!!!

I have lost some weight, so I guess that's cool. I need a nap.

I’m here only on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays. That’s why I’m here now.

I get sick way, way less than I used to, but I also think I start to get sick (that feeling you get the day before you get actually sick) and fend it off more than ever before. But then, I'm out and about more than ever so I guess that sorta makes sense.

It's pretty weird to experience, though. Just kinda randomly walking around at 70% every week or two and then mostly okay after.

Get well soon.

Well, might as well elaborate on my recent "I'm back" post.

I have micro clots in my brain, which leads to a high possibility of stroke in the future.
They can be helped with surgery, but mine are deep, meaning there's little that can be done.

The other thing with them being so far inside my brain is that every now and then, one of them moves, and causes me to blackout completely, which is a very rare condition.
My blackouts are strange as well, as I don't pass out or faint... my brain shuts off my consciousness as a protective measure, and once I come round, I actually have no idea that a blackout has occurred.

The only way I know, is if I'm in the middle of something, and I noticed a kind of "time jump".
One example is I was watching a movie on DVD, and suddenly it was back at the main menu... I thought my player had glitched until I looked at my laptop's clock, and 4 hours had elapsed.

Another is I made a coffee, and by the time I got the my sofa, the coffee was cold.
At some point between pouring the coffee (I remember the water being hot), picking the cup up, getting to the sofa and then taking a sip, I had blacked out long enough for the coffee to go cold.

About 2 months ago I near burned my kitchen down because a clot moved and I blacked out, and I had the stove on.
It was the fire alarm that snapped me out of it.

So, that's me for now.
Using egg timers when I have the stove on, and constantly watching the clock on my laptop.

--

One of the symptoms I do have though, if I black out and don't realise... is I stutter slightly afterwards for about 10 minutes until my brain manages to reset itself.
So I do have an indicator with 10 minutes of stuttering allowing me to know that I've recently switched off and on again.

--

Still though, it sucks knowing that one day, some day... could be any day soon... one of those clots could move, and that'll be it.

This was why I was away for such a long time recently.
Thanks for reading

Dang, that's scary stuff. How are you feeling about all of it, particularly now when you've presumably had a little time to get used to it?

Is there any sense of likelihood? Like, it could happen at any time, and maybe they're not sure, but is that considered very likely, somewhat likely, unlikely...?

It's one of those "Now you have that condition, it is likely it'll be the thing that kills you... but it could be today, a week, a year... or it could be in 30 years. But this is more than likely what will kill you" kinda thing.

I'm ok with it though.
I mean, we all have to go at some point... I think I had a clarity of thought when I realised that most don't know when, where, or how they'll go.
I know basically 99% what it will be, but that uncertainty of "when" actually doesn't change anything.

You ready? You look ready.
@The Rodent: dang man, that's tough. thinking positive thoughts for you. hopefully you'll be the outliner that lives to see Mission Impossible 28: Retirement Protocol

Man. They don't even have a sense of probability then? Just "who knows, could be whenever"?

Man. They don't even have a sense of probability then? Just "who knows, could be whenever"?
Pretty much.
The problem with it is that it's random on the clot movements and blackouts as well so there's no knowing exactly when or where one will happen.
My last blackout was about 2 months ago. Before that was a 6 month gap.
The one before that was about a year or so.

The worst occurrence I had actually stems back to 2007 when I blacked out for 47 hours.
It was initially put down to the mental breakdown I was suffering at the time, and that I'd had a full on mental break.

It's only recently after repeated incidents that scans and stuff have identified a physical cause.

So, as it goes, I've actually had the condition for 17+ years already but was diagnosed incorrectly... so when it comes to something moving in my brain and being, let's say, a bad one... we just don't know when, but we do know it'll happen at some point.
