I've been hesitant replying to this since trying to list 25 bands seemed pretty daunting. There's hundreds of bands that I love. Ah well, I'll do it anyway.

Lol not even Breaking Benjamin, Thirty Seconds To Mars, or Slipknot? Those bands are considered pretty popular. I understand why you don't know a lot of them though, they're mostly metal/hardcore bands. If you don't listen to that kind of music then you won't know them really, since it doesn't really get played on any radio stations.

Nope, but I listen to mostly country music and showtunes, so I'm not surprised when I've never heard of a bunch of artists listed in these lists. I'm just surprised that I haven't heard of any of them on your list. Most lists have at least a few artists that I've heard of, like The Beatles, The Eagles, Journey, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, etc.

Yeah I gotcha, and nothing wrong with those bands either, they're awesome as well. I grew up in the late 90s/early 2000s and most of the bands on my list are from that era.

Country however, I can't really get into. There are a few songs that I don't mind but overall, not my thing.

Yeah, that sounds pretty much like what everybody else here says. Apparently I'm the only country music lover here on MoFo.

Pretty surprised that you haven't heard of Slipknot at least. I know you wouldn't like them but i'm sure you have heard something by them before.

I probably haven't heard them unless they were nominated in a song tournament here. I don't listen to any radio stations that would play that type of music. We don't have a good country music radio station here, so I listen to my mp3 player instead of the radio. The only radio station that I listen to is the sports station while the NY Mets are playing.

You have a whole period with dark and melancholic composers! Check Romantic composers, especially from Germany/Austria and Russia.

Besides those, you have Hugo Wolf (a darker version of Schubert), Shostakovich (one of my personal heroes), Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Mahler, Strauss, Glinka, Mussorgsky, Cesar Cui...

My favorite Underoath albums are Act of Depression and Cries of the Past, how about you?

Those aren't nearly obscure enough. I've heard of all of those.

I would say a tie between They're Only Chasing Safety and Define the Great Line. I first heard of them when "Reinventing Your Exit" came on a commercial during Headbangers Ball. I also have The Changing of Times on cd.

All their stuff is good though, AoD and CotP are cool to listen to since they were SO much heavier then.
