The Takeover of the Comedy Genre (Apatow)

NOT ACTUALLY BANNED
OK, so has there ever been a group of people to take over a genre like Judd Apatow and his group of actors?

Take The 40 Year Old Virgin, Superbad and Knocked Up. Three critically raved comedies. Now look at how much the cast works with each other and each comedy coming out now-a-days.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story - Kristen Wiig (Knocked Up) Martin Starr (Knocked Up and Superbad) Jonah Hill (Superbad, Virgin and Knocked Up) Paul Rudd (Virgin and Knocked Up)

Forgetting Sarah Marshall - Jason Segel (Knocked Up) Jonah Hill (Virgin, Superbad and Knocked Up) Bill Hader (Knocked Up and Superbad) Paul Rudd (Virgin and Knocked Up)

Pineapple Express - Seth Rogen (Virgin, Knocked Up and Superbad) Bill Hader (Knocked Up and Superbad)

Fanboys - Jay Baruchel (Knocked Up) Seth Rogen (Virgin, Knocked Up and Superbad)

Zack and Miri Make a Porno - Elizabeth Banks (Virgin) Seth Rogen (Virgin, Knocked Up and Superbad)

Adventureland - Kristen Wiig (Knocked Up) Martin Starr (Knocked Up and Superbad) Bill Hader (Knocked Up and Superbad)

I Love You, Man - Jason Segel (Knocked Up) Paul Rudd (Knocked Up and Virgin)

Tropic Thunder - Jay Baruchel (Knocked Up) Bill Hader (Superbad and Knocked Up)

Little Big Men - Paul Rudd (Knocked Up and Virgin) Elizabeth Banks (Virgin) Jane Lynch (Virgin) Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad)

Year One - Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad) Michael Cera (Superbad) < This one isn't the main core, but still another connection

It's even bled over into animation...

How to Train Your Dragon - Jay Baruchel (Knocked Up) Jonah Hill (Virgin, Knocked Up and Superbad) Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad)

Horton Hears a Who! - Steve Carell (Virgin and Knocked Up) Jonah Hill (Superbad, Knocked Up and Virgin)

Anyway, I can't remember such a takeover of one genre. Has this ever happened to this extent before? The Apatow clan seems to be set as the main players of the comedy genre for at least the next 3 years with their current and upcoming projects.

Hello Salem, my name's Winifred. What's yours
lets not wildly overlook the frat pack that does kinda intertwine with the Apatow guys, ya know will ferrell, vince vaughn, steve carrell, luke wilson, jack black and ben stiller.

He is taking a huge chunk out, but there are still the odd few that aren't. Baby Mama with Amy Poehler & Tina Fey, Smart People with Ellen Page (Juno), Jennifer's Body (written by Diablo Cody). And there will always be the stupid, stupid, stupid Superhero Movie/Scary Movie/Teen Movie group. They won't take their paws out of comedy.
Apatow just knows what he's doing and does it damn well.

What about Christopher Guest/ Eugene Levy troupe
There is a good amount of SNL and Second City people who appear in their movies. And they each wrote for the shows when they were cast members.

Waiting For Guffman
DOA
Best In Show
A Mighty Wind
For Your Consideration

Guest wrote This Is Spinal Tap with others but it's the same genre.

Absolutely! I´ve just watched a ten years old "comedy" with Michael Douglas and some other guy. It was lame and irritating, like the movie was ten-thousand-years old or so. Maybe someday I will get my
Apatow-Overdose. Until then - make my day!

PS: What about "The Hangover" ? Similar style, but it`s made by the director of "Road Trip" and "Old School".

\m/ Fade To Black \m/
I like pretty much all of the movies listed above and I have noticed that the actors seem to be working together I thought it was to do with the way they are together, as in they work well together and they are "The hot thing" right now

I really like the Apatow crew and the films they've made.

In my opinion, Apatow's minions are lightyears above Will Ferrell and Jack Black. Maybe its because I despise Will Ferrell and think he isnt funny whatsoever. I do love Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn however.

By the way, you can add Role Models to your list, as it stars both Paul Rudd and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

I love it. It's good to bring comedy back to being character and dialogue-based, as opposed to the relentlessly cliche situation-based comedy drivel shoved down our throat for years. The only decent recent example of a situation based comedy was done by the Coen Brothers, of course.

I belive we are in a golden age of apatow comedy, it wont last forever, but its good while it last.

And yes most of the funniest current movies are from apatow.
