What happened to the son in Fargo since his mom is dead and his dad is going to jail? I know they don't show it in the movie so there's no official answer, but what do you think would most likely happen in this situation?

If he has a relative willing to take him in, then that is where he will go. Otherwise he goes into foster care.
The grandfather was a real estate developer - owning at least one car dealership - and he lets Jerry know that his two descendents won't need to worry about money for the rest of their lives.
Scotty will get grandfather's trust money and anything that comes from the mother's estate. He'll have a comfortable foster life with financial advisers.
