IMDB Top 100

I have given both of those movies a second look (heck, I even own them) and while they are good films (Fight Club more so than Donnie Darko) they just aren't top 100 material in my eyes nor do they live up to the hype surrounding them.

I actually own all the movies I have been bashing too

Just back from my Alaskan cruise.
Highlights - art auctions at amazing prices, got my Divine Comedy original edition for the cost of the frame. All you can eat steak, lobster, shrimp, ribs... hmmmmm
Low points - Seen it all before not living too far from Alaska

I'll probably get pounded with rotten tomatoes… but I'll be glad when Gone With the Wind no longer makes top 100 lists period.

GWTW is currently #4 in AFI list which probably means it will stay in list for a while.

I loved Scarlett and Rhett characters although movie does drag in places.

I know some people had a problem with its portrayal of black people. Was that your problem Caitlyn or do you just think it is generally over rated.

I just thought it was very overrated and I try as I might, I just could not really care about the main characters… sorry.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King just became 2. on IMDb top list.

Maybe it would be a good idea to demand that films would have to be at least 10 years old or so to qualify on a list like that. Hyped, popular flavor of the months will always be rated very high on lists like this. Or we could just take these lists for what they are... I'll shut up now.

American History X was only 62? That sucks. That movie was one if the most powerful movies I've ever seen.

Kill Bill and Se7en have no place on that list.

Firstly the Shawshank redemption is an awesome movie and affects anyone who watches it, you can't love a movie that doesn't impact you in some way really. Everyone I've talked to loves this movie and I think the imdb reflects the population quite accurately because it would be stupid for some film expert to create a list like that himself, but I think that just so many people love this movie so it has to be in the top 100.


Well the rest perhaps shouldn't be in the top 100, but I liked a lot of the movies you mentioned, especially Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (my movie of the year).

The Godfather Part II > The Godfather
Aliens > Alien

I'd put City of God and Malcolm X up there.

The Shawshank Redemption is a good movie, but I would not put it anywhere near #3. I think it's overrated, although it's still good.

I liked Memento but I definitely wouldn't put it that high.

Others I'd take out:

Kill Bill Vol. 1
American History X
Requiem for a Dream
Reservoir Dogs

I could come up with a better top 100 not using one single film that's in IMDB's top 100. Their top 250 overall is just horrible. ****ing horrible.

Has anyone here actually seen all these movies? I haven't so I don't know if they belong or not. I mean I haven't even heard of some of these, like "Wo hu cang long", "M", "The Bridge on the River Kwai", "Ran", and the list goes on. I read up on them and they sound OK. Perhaps I will put them all on my to-see list. These people voting on these movies at IMMb don't know what they are talking about. Or maybe they do and just have some bad taste?

Maybe you could but I think their Top 100, although not my Top 100, is excellent (and I say this even though my favorite movie, The Searchers , is not on it)

You have to see Requiem For A Dream, I really liked that a lot, and the soundtrack is excellent.
