A great aspect of the film is that you can scenes such as the long-take hallway fight scene one and the scene with the ants crawling out of the body of Oh Dae Su.

The fact that the film is considered to be so overrated just shows how great the film is.

This film isn't about the war happening outside- like all great war films, it's about the war happening inside, And the really great part is that the tragedy of the inner war is spelled out in a comical way- which is more effective.

Lastly, sometimes the film does nothing and lets the film take a run on itself.

The way the film creates a new level is the mood and atmosphere of the film.

For those just getting into Kurosawa this isn't much of a first film, but once you understand his brilliance make sure to come back to what I think is the pinnacle of his career- a undoubtful favorite of mine.

And it isn't even one of those 'so-bad-they're-good' films.

Not only that, I could see him throughout the film trying different styles in order to adapt to certain scenes, which worked surprisingly well.

Most of the film is fighting after fighting, armies after armies.
