The Squid and the Whale   10/10/19

he visually establishes the central conflict in the very first scene, mom and frank on one side of the court against dad and walt on the other in a competitive game of tennis, and the interplay in this scene sets up all the character dynamics we'll see play out throughout the film.

It probably could've elicited some sort of emotion towards the end if the fight scenes were shot better.

Short Cuts   8/10/13

It never made me interested in it beyond when we initially meet the characters, whereas Short Cuts keeps making subtle character changes, and takes the characters and stories to new places.

The Long Goodbye   7/29/13

Right after seeing this movie, he quickly became one of my favorite film characters of all time.

The "twist" at the end was certainly interesting and I didn't see it coming, but it's hard to call it a twist when the movie is mostly uninterested in its plot (I don't mean to imply that that's a bad thing).

The Road   7/09/13

I guess I just found it interesting or something, but I can't even think of a time throughout the film that I felt especially interested, and none of it really felt new or original after watching The Walking Dead.

Man of Steel   6/25/13

It was pretty overused in the first scene, but the last hour put that scene to shame.

What's Eating Gilbert Grape   5/08/13

I don't mind having a movie without any gimmicks, but then the movie would need exceptional characters and character relationships, and this movie was just about average in those departments.

Say Anything...   4/25/13

I clearly am not the target audience for this, because I generally feel indifferent to romantic movies, and I didn't grow up at this time, and I'm not a teenager, so I can't relate a whole lot to the movie.
