The screenplay by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg is probably based on their real life friendship, hence the names of the central characters, but I'm pretty sure only selected events here actually happened as the outrageous story that unfolds here is all over the place and even though there are laughs ...

However, as I've noted in other reviews, it was very easy to grow fatigued with anything that had any relation to Judd Apatow and featured any of his regular collaborators; Superbad was a major contributor to said fatigue since Apatow regular Seth Rogen co-wrote and co-starred in the film.

While Superbad is mildly entertaining at times, especially the moments with the police, it's ultimately very hollow and routine of the genre.

While it is certainly not original by any means, it earns points for taking a tired genre (highschool kids wanting to get laid and drink booze) and make it relatable to all generations.

Of course, given that co-writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg chose to name their two main characters after themselves, it makes sense that they occasionally feel transplanted from another decade, as it's assumed the two roles are somewhat autobiographical...though hopefully not too much.

Micheal Cera and Jonah Hill do a great job with the interplay between their two characters. They play off of each other amazingly and not just for the lines that a humorous, but also for the heart felt lines.

While not the most hilarious film I've seen, Superbad had my full attention and kept me guessing about what might happen next.
