Speed Racer follows the story of motorsport racer Speed (Emile Hirsch) whose dream is to win a cross-country car racing rally called 'The Crucible': the same racing rally that saw the death of his brother Rex Racer (Scott Porter).

Speed Racer always held the relationships of the family and team in high regard, but what I'm truly impressed about the Wachowskis' adaptation is that for all the visual spectacle on display, it's the relationships and the principles of the characters which make this Speed Racer worth watching.

The story itself isn't very engaging and the people involved don't even seem to know what's going on either. The film has many problems and too few entertaining points.

All throughout the movie I felt like I was inside a cartoon and that was [I]really[/I] cool.

On the whole, this was a well-intentioned revamp/homage to a daft cartoon - but one that didn't need to be made.
