War of the Worlds is Spielberg's third Alien-related film and it's unanimously the weakest, that's to be expected though as ET and Close Encounters of The Third Kind are great films and staples of the Alien genre and hard to match in any department.

I will say though, that the CGI is pretty good, its rendered well and the aliens themselves are (albeit nothing like the original film or the book) pretty original and well rendered.

Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) is a divorced dad, who has to protect his children during an alien invasion.

Overall, the viewer must definitely pay attention to even the most fleeting of details in the auditory and visual imagery because, in classic Spielberg fashion, the story is ongoing in the seemingly mundane.

This is a movie where plot holes run wild....yes there are tons of them.
