I mean, Bridges, in my opinion, is better than his year-earlier Academy Award-winning performance, but he still ain't no John Wayne, and the people who think that Wayne did not give a performance as Rooster are in pure denial.

True Grit is a very enjoyable film with some very solid performances, but itʼs bereft of that very thing [other Coen films] have: personality.

Though Bridges is not John Wayne (nor should he be), he manages to imitate Wayne's balance between war and warmth in a way that says "I'm this way so that you don't have to be."

Bear in mind i havent seen the original True Grit film in 1969, but Bridges just acted so well into the part that he may have given THE John Wayne a run for his money.

Besides my not being a fan of Wayne, I don't think the first adaptation of True Grit in 1969 has aged particularly well.
