REWATCH UPDATE 3/20/24: It's been much longer than I thought since I first watched this movie and evidently the human characters never mattered to me because I completely forgot about two of them who star in Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire.

To make a movie like this feel like more than just mindless spectacle you need to just have some emotional investment in the titular fight, and there are bits that try to do that, but they get lost in pointless subplots and awful comedy.
