The city he lives in is a nightmare, a mashup of a lot of cities, always dark and wet, populated by people who fall asleep at midnight when the Strangers change their memories.

an arthouse movie, Dark City's intentions are pretty transparent: It's there to put you in a mood, that tingly feeling you get when you read one of those cheap Orwellian sci-fi paperbacks with the bittersweet ending that's pleasant in the moment, but staggering in the scope of it's implication.

Dark City is unlike most science fiction movies Ive ever seen.

The story is complex but develops itself as a drawn tight yet frequently entertaining thriller. It is thought provoking, which is a lesser thing you'll find in films today.
