I can't say I've seen another movie that told a narrative from the viewpoint of a parent of a school shooter.

Again, the performances are strong and my reactions to how the movie depicts grief, the father-son dynamic and the dangers of treating people as surrogates like Sam and Quentin did for each other felt genuine enough for me to give the movie a mild recommendation.

Macy's debut feature film, which follows Sam (Billy Crudup), a successful advertising executive that has to cope with the tragic death of Josh, his teenage son, during a shooting at his university.

It's fine that Quentin likes the music Sam plays, but the way it's written Quentin approaches Sam as if he's just seen the face of god.

Sam uses his sons music to help with the grieving process and unwittingly forms a band with a young kid Quentin (Anton Yelchin) whom reminds him of his son.
