This film did not put in the work to earn any such moment, and were left with characters in peril who even 80 minutes into the film seems shallowly sketched out.

However, this film just uses tropes that have already been implemented into other films, for example, the helicopter scene had already been done in a Romero film.

What does push the film through is the pace and the occasional strong performance by an ensemble actor (Jeremy Renner is the standout), the budget is much bigger, but what made the previous film so charming was it's low budget, so this film comes off as more of a generic summer zombie/horror film.

This is an entertaining sequel that manages to actually be better, albeit not by much, to the original. It adds new elements, but doesn't necessarily take the story into new directions.
