I was also hoping the boy might learn how to stand up for himself from the vampire girl (he does once on the lake) and I thought by the end his character would be self aware and self reliant.

Really well shot film, I was surprised to see the climax of the film be one shot underwater.

Let the Right One In is very minimalist film that doesn't offer brilliant bright colors and wild tracking shots but grey ugliness of the real world and steady well placed shots.

Where most indie movies only keep powerful characters like vampires off-screen while they use their powers due to budget restrictions and limited special effects, the effect the direction had on that recurring trait of the film only helped improve on the vampire's already mysterious character.

This Swedish, BAFTA nominated vampire film, is without a shadow of a doubt one of the greatest horror films ever made, in fact, it's one of the greatest films ever made regardless of country of origin, or whatever genre it conforms to.

To call this the best vampire movie isn't much of a statement , but it is a pretty enjoyable drama with the veil of a horror film in front of it.

...a smart horror movie that isn't afraid to challenge genre conventions, and throw around plenty of claret.
