Since this is my third Michael Mann movie, this is the movie where Michael Mann qualifies for a Directorial Score.

Dillinger is not new cinematic territory, but it is the first one I've seen and my knowledge of the facts is pop culture level, so this film can be only judged on how the characters were presented in my eyes and the film as entertainment value.

And in one of the most dramatic scenes of the movie, where Dillinger is at the Biograph watching his last film, Manhattan Melodrama (1934), Mann actually puts in real footage of the film; which makes the scene unforgettable.

I personally loved it, but I’m not sure if it’s one of those films that I can go back to re-watch it over-and-over again.

All the players are set to go with Public Enemies , but this movie fails to deliver on it's premise - with poor technical qualities failing to bring an already boring script to life.

Depp as Dillinger has a surface magnetic screen presence, but the character is given almost no insight and the film doesn't even have much to say about the myth, cinematic or otherwise, of the notorious and deadly Depression era bank robber.
