There's also a great deal of acting ability, with Eastwood turning in one of his best performances ever as high-IQ prison escapee Frank Morris, and Patrick McGoohan performing well as the malicious prison warden.

While Eastwood and his partners in the breakout plan are fairly straightforward, the rest of the cast is filled out with a series of colourful characters; from the sadistic warden to Morris' fellow inmates such as Doc, a gifted painter with nothing to keep him going when his hobby is taken away from...

There are a few slow points throughout, but if anything, they show you just how isolated you were from anything and everything if you were serving time on the rock.
