Team America: World Police

Connor Macgregor Reviews...Team America:World Police

Widely regarded as one of the funniest comedies of all time. I prepare to delve into a film made by two people i really enjoy to watch. This is Team America World Police.

The North American anti-terrorist force Team America attacks a group of terrorist in Paris. Later, the leader of the organization, Spottswoode, invites the famous Broadway actor Gary Johnston to join his world police and work undercover in Cairo in a terrorist organization and disclose their plan of destroying the world. The Team America destroy the cell of terrorists, but then the Panama Canal is attacked by the criminals as a payback. Gary feels responsible for the death of many innocents and leaves the counter-terrorism organization. When the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong II, joins a group of pacifist actors and actresses with the intention of using weapons of massive destruction, the Team America tries to avoid the destruction of the world.

Now I have mixed reactions about this. First is the good things. I like the idea of it being puppets, sort of similar to the original Thunderbirds TV series. Its funny when they do sequences or jokes that shows like that wouldn't normally do, and they are funny to watch. However the comedy overall in the film isn't as strong as it is in South Park. I know its wrong to make the comparison seeing as it is a stand alone piece, but I can't help it. South Park is a masterpiece and so watching this, I was expecting more out there humour as well as offence. There are some jokes however that are really good, such as The Matt Damon Joke and the songs are top notch.

There isn't much to say about the acting seeing as they are puppets, but the voice work is the usual brilliance. Trey & Matt are very good voice artists and show their skill off brilliantly. I think the plot of the story is satire of course, but there are a number of cliches that drags the film down.

Overall, Good Comedy but not a classic by any means. See it if your interested though.
