Connor Macgregor Reviews...Batman (1989)

I was excited, i was ready, i was...dissapointed. This is going to be quite an unpopular review of Batman.

Gotham City: dark, dangerous, 'protected' only by a mostly corrupt police department. Despite the best efforts of D.A. Harvey Dent and police commissioner Jim Gordon, the city becomes increasingly unsafe...until a Dark Knight arises. We all know criminals are a superstitious, cowardly lot...so his disguise must be able to strike terror into their hearts. He becomes a bat. Enter Vicky Vale, a prize-winning photo journalist who wants to uncover the secret of the mysterious "bat-man". And enter Jack Napier, one-time enforcer for Boss Grissom, horribly disfigured after a firefight in a chemical factory...who, devoid of the last vestiges of sanity, seizes control of Gotham's underworld as the psychotic, unpredictable Clown Prince of Crime...the Joker. Gotham's only hope, it seems, lies in this dark, brooding vigilante. And just how does billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne fit into all of this?

What i liked about it was the atmosphere. Its more comic book than The Nolan films are and it gives you that sense of fantasy. Burton's direction is good and gives you that Burton touch that makes most of his films good. Michael Keaton & Jack Nicholson hold great performances in the film and make the rivalry between both characters very convincing. They are both crazy, but in very different ways.

Now here is what i didn't like it. I felt it put style over story. I don't think it had a great plot as there were times it took breaks. You would have an event happened and then they would take these breaks that felt like an intermission. I don't think the supporting cast were that great and the fight sequences weren't really intense and at times boring. Also, it was very goofy and cartoonish and made the film rather silly at points.

Overall,Batman is still an entertaining film, but has its flaws and dislikes for me personally. But still check it out because its worth a watch.
