DAY 118: December 29th, 2008.

Darkman

What to think of Darkman? Where does this film lie in the heap of other films that Sam 'Evil-Dead' Raimi has given us? I honestly do not know. It's not the best film, nor the worst. It's average, with moments of brilliance. I wanted to love this flick, but ended up just enjoying it for the fun ride that it is.

You can tell that Raimi had his hands all over this one, his trademark film style is here and his sense of comedy. Seeing Liam Neeson in this role is a bit bizarre, it's neither serious, nor comedic. Darkman is still a mystery to me, maybe that's what I find so appealing? It never really has any comedic moments, but with every frame you sort of expect something funny to happen. I don't know if it was just me, but I got that feeling the whole time.

I enjoyed that the lead character is suppose to be a type of 'superhero' yet he's insane. He gets burned so bad that he becomes impervious to pain, and is a test subject for some kind of adrenaline rush. Before all this he was a scientist experimenting on synthetic skin, which he uses to disguise himself as other people. Creepy, weird and awesome, all rolled into one.

Darkman is something I could probably watch more times then Spiderman and it has the special distinction of standing out from Raimi's other flicks. Give it a look.
