North by Northwest

North By Northwest (1 viewing)

Plot : A man working in advertising is kidnapped when he is thought to be a secret government agent.

Story : Opens up great , Roger Thornhill is introduced quickly and he appears to not waste time and works extremely fast. Though it isn't long before he is captured and he is no longer the fast talking business-man anymore. Some men accuse him of being a mysterious CIA agent George Kaplan , but he is completely unaware of the situation he's in.

The beginning of the movie is masterfully done , launching the viewer into a mysterious bunch of characters : but about an hour in - after so many twists and turns have happened it loses all of it's intensity. What you could imagine to be incredibly complex mystery is really simplistic and built around nothing : especially when it comes down to the final 40 minutes of the movie - which are incredibly slow and boring.

Visuals : One of the things that jumped out at me from the start was I was expecting this to be black and white - the color really surprised me. There are some really amazing looking scenes throughout as well (especially the house toward the end) , but also some really bad looking parts like the forest : which is one of the fakest sets I've seen in a film. Also , the airplane scene pictured above was really great , but the Mt. Rushmore chase was downright horrible.

Synopsis : Another "classic" that fails to live up to it's reputation and has been out-done by so many other suspense/mystery films.
