Planet Terror

Planet Terror

I needed a mindless movie to watch this weekend and I figured that this one would fit the bill. I wasn't at all disappointed by it. It had a ton of great/mindless action and gore, some great lines, and some really funny parts, particularly when it was poking fun at the fact that it was a film.

The story is over the top, but it was well done. It was definitely something that you would expect from a film like that, and being that the film wasn't taking itself seriously, the plot line worked amazingly for it. Other films use that plague/virus idea as well, but this one just works with it a ton better. It definitely had the feel to a typical grindhouse style film as well. It had that sort of cheesy storyline/parts to it, as well as it had all the gore and action that was expected of it.

I actually didn't feel like the gore was all that bad. There were definitely parts of it where the gore was quite impressively disgusting, notably Tarantino's part in the film, but compared to the gorno's that are being made currently it wasn't that bad. It again went with the type of film it was supposed to be extremely well. I definitely would believe that the action/violence/gore would have been somewhat shocking for the time period that these films were traditionally made in, before the gorno craze occurred.

Overall this is a popcorn flick, which is what it clearly was meant to be. It is a great homage to the grindhouse feature films of the past, and unfortunately will probably spawn more films of that style in hopes of people to build off of any success that the Grindhouse Double Feature might have had. But this film is definitely one of the more entertaining films that I have seen recently.
