Though he didnt direct The Secret World of Arrietty, his spirit and soul can be found all over the film, from the environment to the characters.Thats not taking anything away from first-time director Hiromasa Yonebayashi, who has functioned as a key animator on just about all of Miyazakis films.
The Secret World of Arrietty challenges that notion because its central plot lacks a lot of the innovation that one has come to associate with the name Ghibli (even though Miyazaki is credited with co-writing the screenplay instead of directing).
