Susan Applegate, tired of New York after one year and twenty-five jobs, decides to return to her home town in Iowa. Discovering she hasn't enough money for the train fare, Susan disguises herself as a twelve-year-old and travels for half the price. Caught out by the conductors, she hides in the compartment of Major Philip Kirby, a military school instructor who takes the "child" under his wing.

See the two above photos, the first is from early in the film with no apparent make up, in the second photo she has on more make up but is still in the 12 year old disguise....I guess they figured once we were sold on the idea of Ginger as a 12 year old, they then could doll her up some.

This grown woman pretends to be 12 years old and a couple of conductors on the train catch on almost immediately but our leading man never suspects for a second that this 12 year old girl is a grown woman, not to mention his fiancee and a whole military academy of cadets, yet Pamela's younger sister....
