Its got the excitement factor that most action movies lack, even though it isnt an action movie.
Gibson's self-made millionaire is presented as a flawed human being who has made mistakes and is willing to admit his part in what has happened to his son and even the kidnappers aren't a cohesive unit...there is infighting and resentments among them and you're never sure if they're going to stay to....
