2016(ish) horror film, man’s consciousness travels through his friends

The film demonstrates a really fun sense of humor about the film industry itself, beginning with the very opening sequence of Sullivan's conversation with the studio heads.

However I would guess that there is quite a semi-autobiographical element to it; a director of light-hearted comedies making a film about a director of light-hearted comedies.
