So with Alien: Covenant it looks like Scott buckled under pressure and steered the series back towards the Xenomorphs, hoping to explore their origins a bit more.

It is like they have put 'Alien', 'Aliens' and 'Prometheus' into a blended and then stuck the film back together and came out with this.
Iroquois
The Alien franchise has always been fundamentally weird, even when it delivered two instant classics in the form of both Scott's original and James Cameron's Aliens.
