-Confused- OK, that movie was REALLY good, but I'm very confused. Spoilers:

I liked how the movie's beginning was really the ending and vice versa.
Is Teddy really a cop?
Blah, I have more questions, but I can't think of any. If you've seen it and wanna clear up some confusing parts, PLEEEEEEEASE do it. :-p

It's up to you to decide if Teddy's a cop or not, there is evidence to prove he is and that he isn't!

I thought he was a crooked cop and what he said at the end was the truth.

I saw this just the other day and I thought it was an absolutely terrific film. I wish I'd seen it earlier.

SPOILERS

Yes, Teddy is really a cop. He pretty much explains everything right there at the end which enrages the guy with the truth to the point that he writes "Do not believe his lies" on the back of Teddy's picture and also copies down his license plate so that when he forgets everything he will eventually target Teddy as his JG suspect.

SPOILERS TO ENDING:

Natalie tells Leonard that Teddy is the murderer. She was using him because she Jimmy Grants, her boyfriend, left to see him and never came back. She used Leonard to kill him. Teddy is a crooked cop who told Leonard that Jimmy Grants was his man. Leonard's tattoo said Jon or JAMES G. James = Jimmy. I don't think he did it, but Teddy told him to kill him so Teddy could get 200 Grand and the Jaguar. That's why he was always asking for the keys to the car. Dodd is of no significance. Natalie just didn't want him around, because she saw him as a threat. Sammy is Leonard. The two men, one of whom Leonard killed didn't kill his wife. They only raped her. Leonard killed his wife by injected her with too much insulan. Also, when Leonard was talking about Sammy on the phone, and how he went into a mental institution, a doctor passes Sammy and his face turns into Leonard after he passes. Teddy was telling the truth. In the beginning scene, Teddy told Leonard to look in the basement for proof. Leonard had killed Jimmy Grants and put him in the basement in the last scene, which is really the first scene o_O.
When Leonard went to the bar, and Natalie was taking out the garbage, she thought Leonard was Jimmy because he was in his car and his clothes. The thingie with the "female escort" was just to remind him of his wife.
Am I right about all this? -preys- This is the second time I saw it and I'm going mad about what's happened in the movie.

The thing with the escourt was stupid. Why was that in the movie? It didn't even have any sidal nudity so what was the point?

This movie was good if you don't think about it too closely. If you do you'll go insane and lose your short term memory.

Why did he take that guy's clothes? That didn't make sense.

He took the guys clothes so he could kinda like...live his life...have his car, clothes, girlfriend, methinks.

so leo doesnt have the 15 mins of memory thing he just thinks he does right?

No, he does have that condition...

Now With Moveable Parts
I'm new to this site...just recently registered.I get so frustrated talking movies with people who can,t even remember the actors names. It's like,"Remember that movie with that one guy who's in that movie with that chick?"Yeah see ya.As far as I,m concerned Guy Pierce deserves a nod from the academy, but it will probably get one for editing.:bawl:

MovieForums Extra
Actually, I don't think Memento will win anything at the Oscars... it might be nominated, but definitely won't clean 'em up, there's too many other worthy movies on the line

No one said 'Memento'would clean any thing up.Too bad, because it definately deserves something.I'm hoping it wii do a little better at the Golden Globes. That particular award ceremony is a little smarter;fresher.

By the way, the Memento DVD comes out on September 4th (which is only a week from today). Perhaps the DVD will answer some questions for us.

Now With Moveable Parts
Yes!I thought the same thing!Maybe we could learn something from the director's commentary or watch the movie in reverse.I need to see it again.

SPOILERS BELOW

Very good movie. I thought it would go a bit differently, though. I thought (and my dad did, too) that the big twist would be that Natalie was manipulating him so that everyone would die, leaving her to take the money that she really DID have after all. Teddy, I assumed, was just another guy who wanted the movie, and thought she might have it.

We all suspected (that being the rest of the family present) that he was not killing the right guy in the beginning (actually the end) of the movie.

I sort of understand the finale...but not completely. Why would he lie to himself? Was he acknowleding that he was a murderer? I can see him making mistakes, but not being, intentionally, a murderer. Even if he would forget it later on.

The Sammy angle had me completely fooled, by the way. It didn't occur to me for even a second that they were one and the same. Bravo.

Now With Moveable Parts
I had to see this movie 3 times before my brain would stop formulating questions while I was trying to sleep.I think I got it now.Basically everything Teddy said is the truth.Lenny trains himself to believe whatever he wants to cope.Conditioning,he called it.Just like in the end,he conditions himself to make Teddy his new victim. He keeps looking for his wife's "killer"because then he can forget what he himself actually did to her.God,I loved this movie.Brilliant all the way around...direction,acting,editing...you name it.

I ain't gettin' in no fryer!
If you get some time read the short story on the DVD.

Here's how i think things went down.

SPOILERS!!!!! If you haven't seen the movie yet for all that is good and holy turn away now!!!

Ok, At the end(beginning) Leonard takes Jimmy's clothes and thus assumes the "John G" persona. He is aware of everything up to the abandoned site where he kills Jimmy. On the DVD, it mentions how Leonard was in an institution, and they trained him to use a journal to keep things in memory. Leonard kept two journals. One on normal stuff, and the other hid from everyone had escape plans and whatnot. Back to the abandoned site, Leonard knows he killed the guy responsible for his wife being raped, but he doesnt want to remember the fact that he killed her with insulin. He then decides to go on a neverending quest to avenge. He makes the decision to make Teddy his John G, and burns the evidence that he killed the right guy, and killed the wrong guy.

Natalie is aware that Jimmy is dead. Why she never openly admits it is a mystery. Teddy was trying to help Leonard. He didn't deserve to die. I don't know if anyone caught the flash of Leonard lying in bed with his wife where he had the tattoo on his heart that said I've Done It. Natalie used Leonard to kill Dodd just cause he was something of a pain and she wanted him dealt with. She used Leonard hitting her, and him not remembering it to her advantage.

All and all, WONDERFUL MOVIE. Must see over and over.

Oh and if you don't understand the whole thing with Leonard thinking his wife was raped and murdered, her eye was blinking when she was on the bathroom floor next to Leonard. His wife was distraught over his condition that she tried helping him and he ended up killing her out of confusion.

No problem. The first time I watched this I didn't catch it either. Someone said something to be about it so I watched it again and went slow around there and saw it. I was reading a thing in Entertainment Weekly where they had an interview with Nolan about the hidden images. I know about the one where Leonard's face replaces Sammy's, and the tattoo I've Done It, it said there was more has anyone caught all of them?

I hope this movie rakes in some awards just to encourage more thought provoking films. Enough of the mindless hollywood stuff.

Well hollywood crap will never ever end. There will always be something not worth wipin up after a visit to the bathroom. But it entertains the simple-minded. Simple-minded people will pay 10 bucks to see a movie buy like 10 bucks in food from the concession stand, and laugh so hard they throw up everything they ate. Which basically they lose all their money too. LOL...cruel irony i guess.
