War of the Worlds

This movie looks very eye-grabbing.

It has an awesome plot(the aliens invading earth with machines and trying to dominate)(kind of like "MARS ATTACKS")

On top of that, it has two of the best names in hollywood.---> Spielberg and Cruise. (Spielberg to direct, and Cruise to star)

The release date(wide) should be late 2007. You may be thinking right now, it is very far away from now and we shouldn't begin thinking about that. But, hey! Look back from 2000, we thought all these great movies were so so so far away and it was going to take such along time for it to be released.

Oh Well. Thought it was interesting.Trust me, the more you hear about it, you'll be amazed as well.

Gee…there’s a new War of the Worlds movie coming out? I hadn’t heard anything about that yet. <--- (extreme sarcasm)

Listen…and this goes out to all the other fresh fish on this forum…there is a SEARCH FEATURE available on this site. Look up at the top of the page where it says Welcome, (insert your name here). Right underneath it is the SEARCH FEATURE button! Use it and use it often. It will help us all so much if we don’t have multiple threads ABOUT THE SAME DAMN THING!!!

I clicked on the SEARCH FEATURE and typed “War of the Worlds” (always use “quotations” around your text so it allows words like and, but, so, of, etc) and found out that all the way back in the summer of 2002, spudracer posted a thread entitled, now get this, War of the Worlds. It was unknown at the time that Spielberg was to be at the helm, but it could have always been up-friggin’-dated.

Then in the winter of 2004, Daffyd posted a second thread entitled, again…this is freaky…War of the Worlds. Isn’t that just amazing???

Then, just a little over a month later, bluebottle posted his thread entitled The War of the Worlds. Notice the subtle change? I was expecting something completely different from the other two, but alas, it was only more of the same.

Jump two months into the future and we see that Ladies Man wanted to let us all in on a big secret, so he made a thread called War of the Worlds: 2006. That blew my mind. Finally! Something different…but dammit…if it wasn’t the same damn thing AGAIN! Oh well, maybe it would soon be over.

We found out two months later that it wasn’t; jrs still had to post his upcoming movie thread titled First Peek: Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds, which would have been great if it weren’t for the fact that there had been four peeks before his…not to mention the stuff we can all find on IMDb, though I hesitate to assume that we can all handle that since most people on this forum are to lazy…or something…to use the friggin’ SEARCH FEATURE.

Finally we have this post, the sixth thread about the same damn movie. As matter of fact, your title is the same as 2 others…how could you miss that? Oh wait…you didn’t even bother to check, did you? Don’t feel too bad…NOBODY DOES!!!

AAAaaaarrrggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! George is freaking out!!!

yeah but i've tried that already and the damn search engine just says-------please add more characters to your subject, the number of characters is not efficient for search. (Something like that! )

Here is the actual response from search engine: "The search term you specified (of) is under the minimum word length (3) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer." Really how the hell do you do that if its just a couple words for the TITLE????? Are you supposed to write----- "Threads or posts regarding the upcoming horror flick War of the Worlds" ???????

The Search Engine is not very helpful if that's all its gonna give me.

And god darnit, I am not gonna look around in all the forums for a specific thread for a certain movie.. Thank you.....

I understand that, that's why I gave you the handy, helpful, hint about using quotations. For some reason, if there are words such as...and, to, but, of, so, etc...the search result will come back like what you already saw. I'm glad you made the attempt, though.

My frustration isn't directed at you personally, but rather to all the people who don't even make an attempt to use it. Use the quatations around whatever you type in the search and it will work.

Oh, you're welcome.

Gee, I feel comfortable posting here after reading all this. Welcome to the forum?

Give me a break. There are literally hundreds of multiple threads and I'm personally sick of them. I was blowing off steam, and if you look at my follow up, you will easily see that it wasn't a personal attack.

Welcome to the forum, and use the search feature before you possibly make yet another duplicate thread.

Or I'll kill you and burn your house down and rape your dog. Okay, your dog is as good as raped regardless, but the rest still counts!

Mwahahahaha!!!

ummmmm thanks.......

Give US a break. Get real....you spent a considerable about of time to flame this guy....obvious by the length of your reply. Your motive was clear. In contrast, how much time would it have taken to simply reference a thread or two? This would have demonstrated the results of searching in both word and deed, and made him feel welcome. Lighten up.

I was fond of the TV series and I’m looking forward to this movie. Let's see if this will be able to top "Independence Day". It *should* be a terrific movie…

I'll tell you what...nah.

I have repeated myself over and over...and over again about the problem of people making duplicate threads. I have posted a dozen times or more about using quotations in the search feature and have also made responses pointing to the original threads...hell, Holden Pike has made over a hundred posts doing the same thing, but none of those things seem to ever work. This cat has made four of them in the last few days...even made another after I posted in here. Nearly every single day somebody makes a duplicate thread, so instead of you coming along to bust my balls about something you know very little about...Give me a break, because you're about to hurt my oh-so-sensitive feelings. You big toughie.

I love it when a newbie comes along and tells me what for.

I didn't realy like Mars Attacks but I'll think this will be a movie to see.

Very well said Brian.

I do notice alot who do not use the search feature. That frustrates me very much so .

I use the the feature actually 99.9% of the time. When I happen to not "fully" check, and my thread is posted with so many duplicates I do feel awkward. Though it rarely happens. ( I hope )

And this is my BOOMstick!
I am really starting to dislike that guy.

She's Was Mine! Mine! MINE!

Don't make me laugh. Independence Day although deserving it's Acadamy award for Special Fx is a terrible alien movie. It's a movie gone bad. As soon as Will Smith enters the movie, it goes downhill from there. The Original War of the Worlds is a better movie. It's much more serious and the atmosphere isn't just built up by scenery but with clever writing and great seen build ups. In actuallity, Independence Day was supposed to be the Remake of the War of the World's but they changed the ending and made it stupid. As a matter of fact, there's a character in the original that is almost identical to Jeff Goldbum's character in ID4. There's a ton of reasons by comparison that makes the original a superior movie to Independance Day. I actually like the movie more than the book. I just finished reading the book because I got it for my birthday as a gift and was surprised how the movie and the book differed in ways I thought otherwise. The book also had a run-around quality which I didn't like and the people were used for a commentary on society more than how real people act unfortunately. Also, I didn't know that in the original book, the Martians were defeatable unlike the movie. We just weren't good at it because their artillary at the time was hopelessy innacurate. I'll tell you, if the people in the book had the technology the people did in the movie (Post WW2), they would've easily defeated the martians. Our Shermans would've made short work of them.
Also, the book didn't have a Global scope like the movie did. It took place in England, Where H.G. is from. I thought it was a mistake to make the rest of the world for the book indiscernable. And the main character was nothing spectacular, nor were there many great scenes like the movie. I also found it hard to believe that the Martians could travel here from Mars and yet not be able to fly across the channel! Ha ha ha. You gotta be kidding me. Yeah, the movie was definitely better and it would be a dissapointment and boring if they followed the book more closely for the necst one. My two cents.

Man, evertime I read one of your posts I have this little girly Ralph Wiggum voice saying the words in my head. You have to believe me when I say that I'm really trying not to do this but I just can't seem to stop.

All search engine glarg aside...

I think War Of The World's best incarnation is the Jeff Wayne musical version. Not cos of the music (the martian Ullaaah chant is well thought out), tho it is good, cos of the storytelling. It's basically a ready screenplay.
In the back-story of Jeff Wayne's story England is the martians' stronghold from which they plan to launch the offensive on Earth. Bacteria cut short their plans.
By the way, it does state on the followup disc to WOTW, that the Martians built large scale hydrogen accelerators to launch the pods. They weren't piloted at all. Just slingshotted. The martians have no concept of controlled flight in this 'musical' version. Therefore, wherever they landed on the set trajectory of these unmovable accelerators, is where they continued to arrive. The tripod machines couldn't wade thru the oceans either. I could go on.
Spielberg/Cruise remake? Kill me NOW. Directed by Steven Spielberg, Starring Tom Cruise... Ulla's List?!?! Yeh, and ID4 was horsesh*t. 2 cents.
