Predator: Badlands (2025)

Let's hope this one actually makes it to theaters

Elle Fanning is nearly 30...

Prey was fantastic, so look forwards to this one.
I shortlisted Prey for my yearly fantasy list, but I still found it a bit jarring that a creature capable of taking out an entire squad of battle hardened veterans who are made of 90% beef, 10% tobacco... and a team of hardened cops in a city filled with violence, none of which stand under 6ft 4... getting bested by someone who weighs 80lbs with absolutely no fighting experience.

They need to go back to the roots...

Hot climate area, filled with violence.
Mogadishu, early 1990s, First Gulf War.

Think Sahara from 1943 and the remake from 1995, crossed with Black Hawk Down...

The only movies to actually follow canon are Pred 1 and 2.
Even AvP set the movie, for some reason, in Antarctica. No war, no heatwave etc etc... and the cast were all flimsy paper--armed millennials.

Predator is about heat, war, and 280lb muscleheads getting their asses handed to them.

Like Aliens...
Tough soldiers, coming across an enemy they underestimate, even with all their might and power.
Makes for a more interesting story than a Predator being beaten by a child whose only experience of action is Call Of Duty on a PlayStation.

I'm confused about my feelings.
If you liked Prey, have faith. Also, pray that Prey gets a theatrical release-release.

I see Weyland-Yutani still up to its old tricks…

Sorry but, that looks f*** awful.
Oh, thank you. lol

Kinda glad I didn't have to say it myself first, but hey.

I have mixed feelings on sanding down the Predators to being "not really evil, not even morally ambiguous, but antihero hunters who can even be your allies." They hunt people for sport. Bruh. lol

I just twigged on something.

Badlands isn't a Predator movie.

See, AvP, which is Xenos and Preds... and also contains Weyland Yutani as part of the storylines... and AvP isn't canon inside of either the Xeno universe, or the Pred universe.
AvP is its own thing.

An argument could be said for Predator 2 having a Xeno skull in that cabinet, but, it was a simple homage... no different than R2D2 and 3CP0 appearing as hieroglyphs in Indiana Jones 4... or the Millennium Falcon appearing in Starship Troopers.

Weyland Yutani is in Badlands... so it's not a canonical Predator movie... it's AvP 3.

I noticed as well, in the cabinet there's a Harvester skull from Independence Day

Yeah, saying it again, Badlands isn't a Predator movie... it's a fan fiction AvP movie.

I'm mixed, both intrigued by a quality AvP movie... but also somewhat disinterested in the Predator being reduced to one of those schlocky monster crossover movies like Kong vs. Godzilla.

Like, say what you will about Predators by Robert Rodriguez, but it at least had that far more compelling theme of Yautja being this existential and psychological force, hunting among themselves in a very alien-like culture that's distinguishably different even from our more civilized human-like hunting cultures. Their moral standards aren't our moral standards because they're aliens. Trying to force that kind of modern American values onto that framework is what's making modern cinema so sanitized and monotonous in terms of interesting storytelling we could explore within the realm of science fiction and science fantasy.
