this film, for me is the ultimate buddy cop film, a time where buddy cop was the norm, with lethal weapon 2 years before it, this is just another classic, add to that, retro stylish sunglasses, 80s soundtrack from the great harold faltemeyer, and action sequences that belong to the classic action film shelf.
sly stallone here looks more of a classy stylish woredrobe cop, a insistent and no nonsense approach however brutal and crazy, as we see in the opening scene, such a great opening anyway, not sly s best performance but this guy has action movie star in his blood, his charisma on screen is what makes up for his lesser acting skills on some occasions.
Kurt russel is the buddy cop, a man totally different to his partner, tight jeans and tight basic t shirts, he s just a cop from the streets, working with the filth of Los angeles.
i like this movie a lot, and jack palance is one hell of a screen presence as a villain, it s just brilliantly cast.
the direction is spot on with this one, but the ending felt a bit too rushed, although entertaining, but this was the 80s, the beauty of it.
