french knife thrower

i saw on old(ish) french film on abc [australia] a while back. it was a really engaging film, based around a french knife thrower and his relationship with a girl he snatched from suicide. it was excellent, but i have no idea what it was called. anyone know what it is called? who directed it? when? and where i might be able to films in a similar vein?

Yeah, that's definitely The Girl on the Bridge you're describing. A beautiful little movie, with amazing black and white cinematography.



The beautiful female star of the movie is Johnny Depp's real-life wife, Vanessa Paradis.


If you haven't ever seen Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire (1987), seek it out ASAP. It's kind of along the same vein, though superior.

ah, thanks so much.

that certainly is the film i was watching. im surprised to see that it was released in 1999. but then again, i guess im not that surprised, i could hardly say ive watched a lot of films, especially older ones.

both the lead actors were amazing, i really enjoyed the whole film. to tell the truth, i really didnt mean to watch it, i was just flicking channels when it started, and i couldnt have turned it off, even if i tried... a good film. why is it that there arent that many films around like that?, ones that dont let you look away? a more likely scenario, is that there are around, im just not looking in the right places...

anyway, thanks for you suggestion, ill check it out.
