My Favorite Kurt Russell Performances

Tools

Like Elizabeth Taylor, he's one of those rare animals who started his acting career as a child and made an almost seamless transition into an adult acting career that has spanned over half a century. Comedy, drama, action, this guy does it all...and he's pretty easy on the eyes too. His career definitely slowed down after he met the love of his life, Goldie Hawn, but he has always stayed relevant in Hollywood and he and Hawn have become one of Hollywood's great power couples. I just wanted to get this up here to get folks' attention, but there is one Russell movie that I know belongs on this list that I have not seen and may have to take a break at some point before I complete the list in order to determine where this film will rank, but in the meantime, get ready for my favorite performances of one of Hollywood's most underrated actors, Kurt Russell:

25.

Whitey, Follow Me Boys

Russell's second film appearance found him starring with Fred MacMurray in a Disney family drama about the formation of the first Boy Scout troop. This performance was at the bottom of my favorite child performances list.

24.

Michael Zane, 3000 Miles to Graceland

The film is nothing to write home about, but Russell is fun as part of a group of ex-cons who plan to rob a Las Vegas casino during an Elvis convention.

23.

Steven Post, The Barefoot Executive

This film was made during Russell's late teens/early 20's when he was at his most adorable...in this one, he played a mailroom employee at a television station who becomes a top exec at the station thanks to his relationship with a chimpanzee who has a knack for picking hit television shows.

I'm not really a big fan of Kurt but i'm looking forward to this. Couldn't tell you what my favourite is.

Despite seeing him in multiple films beforehand i didn't know he existed til i was about 14. I honestly thought he was Patrick Swayze, i thought Swayze was in Overboard and Escape From New York

3000 Miles to Graceland...That sounds kind of fun-cool, I might have watched it or at least heard someone talk about as it sounds real familiar. This should be a good thread

I haven't seen a lot of Kurt Russell's movies, but this might be a good list for adding movies to my watchlist.

22.

Lucky Lockhart, Swing Shift

Russell was charismatic in this nostalgic period piece as a musician in the 1940's who falls for a married defense plant worker (Goldie Hawn). This 1983 romantic drama was also the start of one of Hollywood's greatest love stories. Kurt and Goldie actually met for the first time on the set of The One and Only Genuine Original Family Band when Kurt was just a kid and Goldie was making her film debut. This film brought them together, sparks flew, and they have been a couple ever since...and have never bothered to marry either.

21.

Dexter Riley, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes

Kurt played fictional Medfield College student Dexter Riley in a couple of films. In this one, Dexter attempts to repair a computer, gets shocked by it, and his brain is turned into a computer which the school's nasty dean (Joe Flynn) decides to use to his advantage.

Yeah, the resemblance between him and Swayze is rather uncanny. They could be brothers.

Tarantino has rather spoilt Kurt Russel for me

I don't see it

I've never heard of The One and Only Genuine Original Family Band before, but I looked it up when I read that Kurt and Goldie Hawn met while filming this movie. IMDB says he was only 17 when he made that movie, but I watched the trailer on YouTube, and he looked very young for his age back then. I never realized that she's older than him either.

Don't want to jump the gun (as usual) but the Graceland movie reminded me of a Kurt Russel movie from when I was young - I believe it was a made-for-TV movie (I won't even look it up to find the title). But he played Elvis himself in the film.

I think it was an early bio-pic made shortly after Elvis had died, but since I'm not looking it up I can't be sure. It seemed like a whole bunch of Elvis bio-pics came out around that time. Kurt was pretty good as "the King," but at the same time it was kind of funny watching him impersonate Elvis. Not sure if it will even show up here since it was made-for-TV (or maybe it'll be #1).

Now that i'm older and know who Kurt is i feel like an idiot, but as Gideon showed they do look similar. They also had their peaks during roughly the same time in the 80's and early 90's.

It's not the worst mistake i've made. Somehow i thought for years that it was Bruce Willis in A Perfect World instead of Kevin Costner. I still don't have a clue what that was about since they aren't similar at all.

You really don't see it?
Honestly no and Swayze was better imo okay maybe there's a slight resemblence when they're sitting still but not when they're acting or talking, completely different.

Kurt made his film debut as a kid in an Elvis Presley film called It Happened at the World's Fair in 1963 and The One and Only Genuine Original Family Band was released in 1968.

Kurt's performance as Elvis will definitely be on this list.
