3 movies I really love so far with RoboCop, Terms of Endearment, and Umbrellas of Cherbourg, while Anchorman is an excellent comedy.

Lilya 4-Ever and The Passion of the Christ are already on my watchlist.

Philadelphia
(1993)

this movie did something to:

Miss Vicky

in her words:

Back in the 80s and early 90s, homosexual characters were almost never seen in mainstream American film, except as comic relief. And at 12 years old, I had little concept of any kind of sexuality outside of heterosexual relationships. My family's not particularly conservative, but it just wasn't something we talked about and the few homosexuals I knew personally were not yet out of the closet. Philadelphia presented its characters not as the caricatures I was used to seeing, but as real people facing real, tragic circumstances.

Schindler's List
(1993)

this movie did something to:

Miss Vicky

in her words:

Another film from my adolescence. The first time I watched it, I knew very little about the holocaust. But seeing this re-enactment of events and people showed me that monsters are real. They don't hide in closets or under the bed, but they exist. Then, as now, I come out of this film feeling like I've been physically beaten. It's draining. It's an arduous and painful experience and one that I cannot endure more than once every four or five years at most.

I still haven't seen Philadelphia or Schindler's List.
Whoa! Well theyre both heavy movies, heavy movies. It just might not be your thing.

I turned Philadelphia off after about an hour. However, I later decided to buy it for some reason.

Stop being bitter. Your surly mood may ruin the hard work you put into presenting other peoples posts.

What?!

You really should see them.
Schindler's List is on my watchlist. I haven't seen it either. I don't think.

I might have? But I don't remember it at all.

So far I'm liking this list more than the Guilty Pleasures list.
I actually am, too -- which is why it's deeply upsetting that certain people wanna derail it.

12 Years A Slave is a good movie, but I think they did a pretty poor job of conveying the passage of time. If it wasn't in the title, I wouldn't have really known how long Solomon was enslaved. I think I would've felt more for the character if that had been handled better. Paul Dano's terrible performance took me out of the movie quite a bit as well.

Birdman
or (The Unexpected Virtue
of Ignorance)

(2014)

this movie did something to:

Captain Steel

in his words:

This movie made me more angry at a movie than I've been in a long time.
The movie both lost and won...
It lost because I was one of the little boys who identified that "the Emperor is naked," and I called the film out as being pretentious, wanna-be-performance-art-nouveau rubbish. But it also won because making me angry at it and having me call it out was exactly the response the movie intended to elicit in that rare segment of the audience that was not taken in by trying to identify it as some form of subtle, surreal genius! All that, and two hours of "jazz drums"!!!
