Goodfellas-one of the best films ever?

What is you opinion on Goodfellas, does it live up to its reputation, is it overrated, is it in your top 5 movies ever...?

I'm not sure what's with all these weird questions. But yes, I think it's a great film that lives up to its reputation. not top 5 films, but not many films are Top 50 maybe.

Goodfellas is a great movie. It isn't in my top 5 but it is certainly a great movie. Entertaining, well written and acted, with a great story and characters, I would highly recommend Goodfellas. The first time I saw it I really enjoyed it and I enjoyed it the many other times I watched it too. It is a very fun and entertaining movie, and it definitely should have won Best Picture over Dances With Wolves. You won't regret watching Goodfellas.

How about you actually watch all these films that you're asking about, and form your own opinions.

One member might consider Goodfellas an absolute masterwork, but the next poster might hate it. Watch it for yourself, and then you decide.

Goodfellas will always hold a special place in my heart--it was the movie that jump started my interest in film. However, as my ongoing exposure to film continues, I've noticed that I don't hold it in such high regards as I used to. That's not to say I dislike the film, I still adore it, and I think it is incredibly well made; however, I don't think it's the masterpiece that I at one time considered it to be.

I don't like crime movies but I found Goodfellas to be an extremely well made film and I included it into my top 100 live action films despite being in a genre I dislike. For people who are into the genre I guess they would love it really hard (and they do).

There's actually a handful of Scorsese films I prefer to it, including "Casino" which spawns more of an emotional core.

I think Goodfellas is nothing short of brilliant and is Scorsese's masterpiece. I think it's better than The Godfather...a blistering, bloody epic that just seems to get better with every re-watch and it is a film I NEVER get tired of re-watching. Needless to say, I also believe it was robbed of the Oscar for Best Picture of 1990 and Scorsese for Best Director.

Goodfellas is a masterpiece and although it's not in my personal top five list (there are many good movies out there), it is still somewhere in the top.

It's in my top 100 for sure. It's a very, very good movie. Don't think it's Pulp Fiction, but it's very good.

Defendable point .. Goodfellas is in my Top 100 and I just buy The Steelbook Blu-ray but I didn't see enough foreign movie to call it the best movie ever made ...
