Seven vs Goodfellas?

Just interested in your opinions on which do you think is the better film and why, Se7en or Goodfellas?

And what would you say is the minimum age to view each film? Eg se7en 15 Goodfellas 12 etc.

I can't pick on over the other. For me Goodfellas had the better characters but Se7en's plot was absolute genius. But both movies were very well acted and brilliantly directed. In terms of minimum age I think you are just about write Bob. Se7en didn't really show any of the violence take place but the themes were pretty disturbing. However perhaps 12 is too young for Goodfellas still, the violence was pretty constant.

Top rating, age 18 for both...


Se7en is definitely a better film but Goodfellas is still a great movie.


I'm not sure why these two are compared though. It's like randomly throwing out Ghostbusters Vs Blade Runner.


If it was Goodfellas Vs Casino, or Terminator Vs RoboCop, that would make sense.

BTW the ages I have we're not the ones I thought, they were just an example, as I haven't had the chance to see either yet.

Goodfellas is better. Se7en has Morgan Freeman so a teenager might like it more. About 14/15 is when teenagers start watching cool 18 movies.

Se7en blew my ****ing mind when I first saw it.

Goodfellas is great too, but no other movie left an impression quite like Se7en.

OK, let's keep it real. Goodfellas is BY FAR the better movie.

For a young teenager, though, I would recommend Se7en, because it's more plot-orientated and has more shock value, which is something that teenagers tend to appreciate more in movies than just sheer good storytelling and filmmaking.

I'd say Goodfellas but like I said it can get boring for a 14 year old.




It's 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.




You know what, I'll throw in a full on recommendation rather than beat around the bush... show them both... one on one night, the other the second night. Make it over a weekend. Friday and Saturday night.

They are both masterpieces. But if you ask which movie is more complete i would say Goodfellas.

Not sure what you mean by "complete" but I definitely prefer Goodfellas..it definitely has more re-watch appeal than Se7en.

How gruesome and gross is se7en? Is the fat guy scene at the start the worst, or does it keep getting worse? Do some scenes make you feel sick?

it depends what your looking for. If your looking for a gritty, blunt character study on the life daily homicide detective work than se7en is your film. But if you want ambitious direction, fantastic performances, brilliant era capturing soundtrack, tonal shifts within the drop of a hat, being able to laugh at one scene and then have your jaw drop all the way to floor during the next with such unlikable characters than Goodfellas is your movie. Both are great great great films. personally i'd pick goodfellas over se7en any day but thats just because its such a staplemark of my childhood. to each his own

Also, does show a lot of stuff like insides and all that and should a teen who is sensitive about that kind of tuff be able to watch it?

Se7en leaves a lot of it to the imagination... you never see the mutilation, just the aftermath.


Goodfellas has realistic violence, including a guy's head put in a vice.

And how long do the scenes with bodies last?

When i say that is complete, i mean that as a movie experience Goodfellas offers a little bit more than Se7en. The acting is better, the directing is better, the soundtrack is better, etc.
