Movie that Buffy St Marie sang the tracks to

I saw a film a few years ago in which a young inuit boy suffered an illness and had to leave his family. It was a story of his life and how he overcame the illness and subsequently returned to his nation and took part (possibly winning) a dog sled race.

Does anyone know what it was called?
