Tobe Hooper for Salem's Lot was the most memorable recent one I heard. He's super low key but informative and pleasant.

I think I never listened to any commentary!
^ This. I've heard snippets but never sat through a whole film listening to commentary. For me, there are too many films in the world to sit for a few hours watching the films again but this time listening to the director or actors talking over it. I'd rather watch a film completely again or use that time to watch more films I want to see.

I like the idea of these things but just don't have the patience for it.

Jack Nicholson's commentary on The Passenger was so enjoyable. At the end he apologized for possibly boring us. Such a humble guy.

It's good that he does commentaries. It's a shame when actors like that decide not to contribute to the behind-the-scenes material.
