Late '40s early '50s war movie - Troop crawling up beach

Tools

Just another of those movies from the past that bugs the crap out of me because I can't remember the name.

I remember seeing this movie as a kid in the early-mid '50s. As I recall, the soldier was crawling up a beach with his rifle cradled in his arms and the dialog was of his thoughts. "Might end up crawlin' in this sand forever..." that sort of thing. I think there were also some flashbacks to his training and life before the army.

Anybody that can help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the answer, Used Future, but I've seen Sands Of Iwo Jima and it's not that movie. I suspect it was a "B" lower budget feature than Sands.

Wild gueess, based on it opens on a beach, and the movie has flashbacks in the lives of the soldiers.

Didn't see it.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
Good choice, although I don't remember that in the movie. I was thinking of The Story of G.I. Joe but I don't recall any flashbacks.
