Martin Scorsese's Hugo Cabret

Martin Scorsese's next project is The Invention of Hugo Cabret, or as it's being called now, just Hugo Cabret. Does anyone have any good info on this movie yet? All I know is that it will be shot in 3-D with Robert Richardson set as DP, and principle shooting began June 28th.

But does anyone know specific details about the story? I'm trying to see what drew Scorsese to the material. I think it's adapted from a book; does anyone know what the story's about it the book? A children's story just seems so foreign for Scorsese. Unless you count Kundun, but even that was not really a children's movie. Is the invention a robot? What does the robot do? Seriously, I have heard nothing about this movie, which is strange from a director as huge as Scorsese, and in 3D.
