Best Horror Satire

Comedy of Terrors, 1963, starring Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff, and Basil Rathbone.

It's easily the Scream trilogy. When I was growing up in the 90s, nothing could touch those films in terms of it's satire and knowingness.

Gremlins gets an honourable mention as well.

Three not-quite-horror movies I like:

April Fool's Day was the reason I didn't find Scream to be that innovative.



John Carpenter's Assault On Precinct 13 is pretty funny. It's as if there's a bumper sticker slapped on it that says, "I'd rather be making zombie flicks."



Donnie Darko was a masterstroke of genre-bending. The double-feature of Evil Dead and The Last Temptation of Christ speaks for itself.

Funny I came across this topic, seeing as I just picked up the Scream Trilogy last night. I really dig those flicks.

I have to say Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are both towards the top of my list as far as horror/satire go. And of course I agree that Young Frankenstein is the champ. Great, great film. I think it is my favorite of Brooks' films.
