Well as far as overrated goes, I think that the The Dark Knight, the Godfather and The Shawshank Redemption are all really great movies. It's just on the Imdb top 250, they are all voted in the top 4 of all time, along with Godfather Part II. I still haven't seen Part II, so I won't comment on that.
But as for the other three, I think they are all great movies, but overrated in the sense, that they are not 3 of the four greatest movies ever made. I would put them in the top 50 maybe, but not the top 5 ever made.
Yeah, there was this thread last year which was all about how Fury Road was the most overrated film of 2015 and, when I instead suggested that The Revenant was the true most overrated film of 2015, it just resulted in several pages of arguing that I don't think made any difference to the people I argued with (as for me, well, I'm not even sure what really is the answer because, well, who cares anymore, we got bigger problems now).
Still amused that one of those users was trying to tell me that The Revenant was more like to be the most underrated movie of 2015. Like...no way.
If I had to choose which movie is more overrated, I would say The Revenant. The Revenant certainly has bigger, more epic aspirations, than Fury Road. The Revenant is a good drama for sure, but didn't think it was a really great masterpiece, that is was made out to be.
Fury Road, is not a masterpiece either, but I think it does a better job at succeeding as an action extravaganza, than The Revenant does, as a drama masterpiece.
And to say The Godfather was too long, I actually thought maybe it needed to be longer perhaps, as Michael's relationship with Appelonia felt so quick and needed to be fleshed out more I thought.
