2020 Halloween Challenge

Tools

October is a week away and I thought we would open up a discussion and see if anyone wanted to watch 1 horror film for each day of October.

Now if anyone wants to I can also do what Jabs does and give you 31 categories to expand your palette.

The trick is not minding
Yeah, it’s funny. I chose a handful of horror And giallo films to watch that I hadn’t yet For this October. Mostly foreign films. Under the shadow is available on Netflix, for example.
I’m interested in what categories you have in mind though

Already writing these down. I have films available for many of these just on Amazon.
I may not finish this, but I will aim to do many of them.

I'm scrambling to get the 2020 Challenge done, but I will definitely follow along! Horror is my favorite genre and it will be really fun to see what people pick to watch!

With some proper research you can find a lot of overlap between the two (depending on your choices in the nightmare mode of the 2020 challenge).

That's true, I'm going to finish Nightmare mode in October with this...

You know what they call a Quarter Pounder with cheese in Paris?
watch 10 foreign language films
- I think I'm going to have 10, or close to it

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times!
watch 10 films released in the same decade

-I think this is also likely, or once again close to it

I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore
watch 10 films from the same country

-I'm doing UK so this will be no problem

Round up the usual suspects
watch 10 films from the same genre

Nuff Said

How soon is now?
watch 10 films released in 2020

Well this was going to be tricky anyways but it should help

Roger says...
watch 10 films from Roger Ebert’s great movies list
This is also doable though tricky....
1. King Kong (Creature Feature)

2.Hitchcock
3. Silence of the Lambs (90's Sex Horror)
4. Alien/Nosferatu/(RT Positive)

5. Santa Sangre(Spanish Language)
6. Nosferatu(1979), Werckmeister Harmonies (Slavic)
7. Fall of the House of Usher(Edgar Allen Poe)
8. Dracula(Vampire)
9. The Shining (Ghost)
10. Bride of Frankenstein(Frankenstein)

Chekhov, Method or Meisner?
watch 10 films featuring the same actor
-Peter Cushing is my actor I don't know if I'll have 10 but close to it

I have a vision...

watch 10 films from the same director
-Perhaps with the streaming sites you could get rattle off 10 Fisher films

The only three you can't get are...

  1. Live from the Dolby Theater!
  2. watch every film nominated in 2019 for the Academy Award for Best Picture
  3. Documentary, my dear Watson
  4. watch 10 documentaries
  5. ..and the Oscar goes to...
  6. watch 10 films that have won an Academy Award in any category

A system of cells interlinked
As per usual, I would be IN.

Oh, I definitely will be able to double-dip in terms of Japanese films.

But my 10 films by the same director person doesn't do horror, sadly.

I'll probably alternate between this and the 2020 challenge. I won't be able to do one a day, but I'll just work my way through and see what I can get done.

Technically you can. link

The trick is not minding
Using a few of these to fill out normal mode.

National Society of Film Critics' Essential Films
Bride of Frankenstein
Mofo winner: Deep Red

Have yet to watch it. 🙁
Just bought a universal classics monsters that included it.
You're in for a real treat. I like it a smidge more than the original Frankenstein. It may be my favorite Universal monster flick.

Now, part of that may be that the print I watched was beyond gorgeous. It was luminous.

What I really like about this is next year, if you decide to run this again (and really, why wouldn’t you?) many of those are easily interchangeable.
Cronenberg, Romero, Dante are all directors who could easily replace other here.
The mummy creature is another that can appear much like the werewolves and vampires.
Chaney and Lugosi as actors.
Another involving sequels or remakes in general.
Sci fi horror, kaiju horror, nature horror (like Jaws and Pirahna for example) and Canadian body horror are also a few subgenres that could appear in future challenges.
The possibilities are endless.
