The Swell Maps - Jane From Occupied Europe

Man, after talking the album up for months, I forget about Van's Common One. I'll just drop the DC then.

Devo's Freedom of Choice is my favourite, but it was a pretty strong year for metal. A few not yet mentioned:

Motorhead - Ace of Spades
Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard of Ozz
Diamond Head - Lightning to the Nations
Scorpions - Animal Magnetism
Def Leppard - On Through the Night

A key year for punk as well. From the hardcore side of things, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables by the Dead Kennedys and Los Angeles by X are pretty essential listens, but my favourite punk record would have to be Joan Jett's Bad Reputation (released as Joan Jett in 1980, re-released under the better known title the following year). Maybe the purest example that comes to mind of taking classic rock'n'roll and turning it up way the **** loud (don't Ramones me, dammit).

What, no Iron Maiden?:

The Swell Maps - Jane From Occupied Europe
Need this and Marineville damnit. Only have a couple of LP comps but they're so great.

The Fall - Grotesque (After the Gramme)
damn how could I forget this. Straight in at #3 in 1980 for me.

Any Grace Jones fans here? I've been listening to this one quite a bit lately (mostly because I've been watching Sandra Bernhard's appearances on Letterman and she kept bringing up Grace Jones).
