Bumping this because the asian film thread made me think of something.

What foreign language 40's films does everyone suggest? I know there'll be plenty in that first post but i can't be bothered going through everything. I've spent so much time learning about and watching Hollywood films from that decade that i'm not really aware of other countries outputs outside the big names.

There Was a Father and Hen in the Wind

Thanks. Wasn't sure which Ozu's were most worth checking out as i'm not sure how many i'll get to. I own Late Spring but haven't watched it yet.

Both are on youtube with english subs.

There Was a Father was very good. I still have to see Horse in the Wind.

This is the best '40s movie I've seen in the last month (although I've seen it at least a dozen times):

I didn't know if this thread was solely devoted to Westerns, but I saw This Gun for Hire (1942) listed, so I'm gonna let the film noir rip:

Late Spring is probably my favorite 40s Ozu, but I figured it to be too obvious.

It's for any 40's films. Pretty sure those are all in the first post but there's no harm in mentioning them again.

Gun Crazy is listed as a 1950's film IIRC.
